This
is Disneyland's premier members-only restaurant. Located next to the Blue Bayou
Restaurant is a small door with the number 33 on it. (The number 33 signifies
it's address on Royal Street) If you are a member, you will have made
reservations prior, and you push the buzzer and are asked to identify yourself.
The door opens and you and your guests enter one of the most secretive places
in Disneyland.
The restaurant occupies most of the area above Cafe Orleans, and the
windows here offer views of the River and surrounding areas. Here you'll be
treated to a superb menu, top notch service and a chance to buy some exclusive
Club 33 merchandise. There is a waiting list to join Club 33, as well as
membership fees, and annual dues. The cost of a membership, the old saying
goes, if you have to ask how much a membership costs, you probably can't afford
it. Most members are businesses or organizations, along with private members.
You can inquire at City Hall for further information. New Orleans Square opened
in August 2, 1966, but with many of the major attractions and restaurants
missing (i.e. Pirates, Blue Bayou, Club 33).
Club 33 opened in May 1967. It was originally meant to be used to
entertain guests and VIP's, and was rarely used at first. Eventually,
memberships were sold to the public. Small microphones inside the chandeliers
alerted your cocktail and food server. (they have since been disconnected). The
Royal Street Apartment above Pirates of the Caribbean was never completed due to
Walt's passing, and eventually became The Disney Gallery.
