A Brief Description (Some spoilers)

Awaiting the show, the Introduction announces the story of the show. The lights dim, everything is dark. A chord is heard, and the main sequence begins, slowly building to a crescendo. Lights dance around the waters, then settle on a solitary figure on the center stage; Mickey  Mouse takes control of the waters, creating huge fountains of water and light. He fires sparks from his fingertips. Scenes from The Sorcerer's Apprentice are projected on huge fifty-foot tall screens of water mist, the theme continues into the  Jungle sequence. Characters from  The Jungle Book, including a very large snake named Kaa prance around the island and on floats that circle the river. Pink Elephants take the stage as black-lit cutouts poke their heads out from behind various objects on the island, appearing and disappearing at will.

The show takes on a more peaceful tone with Pinocchio, and the Wish Upon a Star Theme. This further leads into the scene where Pinocchio is threatened by a projected whale that splashes water on the audience. The main theme is again visited with the Princess Medley, including songs from Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White. The show takes on a darker look at Mickey's imagination with the introduction of the evil witch from Snow White. She vows to "turn that little mouse's dream into a nightmare fantasmic", calling on some of her the friends in the Witches Medley. By conjuring up the various forces of evil, including Ursula from The Little Mermaid, the creatures from The Night on Bald Mountain sequence from Fantasia, and finally,  Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, in which she transforms herself into a giant fire-breathing dragon. Mickey takes control and defeats her, leading into the Final Sequence between good and evil. The Mark Twain comes down the river, with the Disney characters waving joyfully. Mickey reappears and gives a fantastic finale of light, magic and pyrotechnics. The show concludes with Mickey stating, "Some Imagination, huh?"  the lights flash, and the island goes dark.

Alternate Ending

When the Mark Twain is under refurbishment, the characters come out to the island and perform and dance for a short period, before Mickey reappears.

Fantasmic is a spectacular show, but the music and effects are VERY loud, and may disturb younger children. Perhaps watch the video below, and discuss the show with them before you head out the park.
