The Haunted Mansion - Liberty Square

"When hinges creek in door less chambers, when strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls...Whenever candle lights flicker, where the air is deathly still...that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight!",

-- The Ghost Host

Welcome, Foolish Mortals, to the Haunted Mansion, the home of 999 Ghosts ... But there's room for a thousand.. Any Volunteers?

The foreboding Dutch Manor house overlooks Liberty Square and while similar to Disneyland's original version, the Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion differs in several different ways. While the narrations are almost identical, upon entering the Foyer, you are greeted by a portrait of Master Gracey, which slowly transforms into a skeleton. The doors open and you enter the Portrait Gallery. Again similar to Disneyland, but the ceiling rises, whereas the entire room lowers in the Disneyland version.

Boarding your "Doom Buggy" you make your way through the Mansion. A portrait gallery, similar to Disneyland (but without the transforming portraits) leads then into the Library (absent from the Disneyland version). You then proceed into the Music Room, past the endless hallway, into the conservatory, through the corridor of doors, into the séance circle room with Madame Leota and into the Grand Hall, where ghostly figures are in the midst of a 'swinging wake'. You then proceed into the Attic, and finally into the Graveyard, where "Grim Grinning Ghosts Come out to Socialize".

The Florida Mansion was constructed and completed nearly six months before the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. The immense show building is located directly behind and to the right of the Mansion. (Unlike Disneyland's version, there is no railroad berm in the way). Designers Marc Davis, Claude Coats and Rolly Crump were again instrumental in the design of the attraction. The Mansion at Tokyo Disneyland is almost an exact replica of this version.
