Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island |

Added just one year after the
park's opening in 1956, Tom Sawyer's Island has been a popular spot for
youngsters and adults alike. The island is filled with fun places to run
and hide, to explore and have adventures. A teeter-totter that looks like
a large rock, Injun Joe's Cave, the floating barrel bridge are just a
couple of the fun activities on this island. Rafts taxi guests to and from
the shores of Frontierland. Be aware, the rafts close at dusk, and even
earlier on nights that Fantasmic is performing.
Early in the park history, you could even fish off the banks of the
Rivers of America. Unfortunately, guests usually deposited their fresh
catch in the nearest garbage can, since carrying them around all day
presented a bit of a problem. Soon after, fishing on the Rivers of America
stopped. Other sites around the island include:

At the back of the island, and only visible from the River, or the
Disneyland Railroad, this settler's cabin is ablaze. The narration of the
Disneyland Railroad once stated the poor settler was a victim of an Indian
attack. (the dead "settler", complete with arrow in his back, has since
been removed). The more politically-correct version has incorporated into
the Railroad spiel: is "But it has it dangers too...Why there, across
the River is proof, a settlers' cabin is ON FIRE". The cabin is currently
not burning, and a new narration exists.

From the story of Tom Sawyer, Injun Joe's Cave is a an adventure in
exploration and wonder. A "bottomless pit" is inside, as well as hidden
passageways and destinations. Located near the Raft Dock.
