Rocket Rods

Futuristic roadsters take to the track (once inhabited by the Peoplemover) and speed around Tomorrowland. The cars travel at high speeds and make futuristic noises. The queue area began in the current Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster's building, and included models of past Tomorrowland Transportation vehicles; such as the Alweg Monorail, the Peoplemover, Rocket Jets (see photo below), and "blueprints" of the Submarine Voyage and The Flying Saucers. You then continued underground through a tunnel and board the Rocket Rods atop the old Peoplemover/Rocket Jets/Observatron platform. It was best to experience Rocket Rods at night (it's scarier when you can't see exactly where you are going). A single-rider option greatly reduced the wait for single riders, but because of the slow nature and limited capacity of the attraction, wait times usually exceeded two hours or more when the attraction first opened, and continued to be plagued by technical issues throughout it's short life. Rocket Rods permanently closed after a lengthy downtime in the Fall of 2000. In April of 2001, Disneyland, and then-President Cynthia Hariss officially announced the Rocket Rods would not return. Outside of limited construction around the track for the Buzz Lightyear attraction, very little has been done with the Peoplemover/Rocket Rods track, but the track was recently painted as part of a massive Tomorrowland repainting project.

In the audio clip below (coming soon!) you'll hear audio that was featured in a film viewable in the queue, along with some attraction sounds and music. Most of the narrations you'll hear in the sound clip are actually narrations from Walt Disney World's TTA (Tomorrowland Transit Authority), also known as the Peoplemover, and were never featured in the actual attraction.
