Rick McKee is a junior music composition major at OCU. While in high school
Rick served as accompanist, arranger, composer and orchestrator for Jenks High
School choirs and showchoirs. While at OCU, Rick has performed as Matt in
The Fantasticks, Toby in the opera
The Medium and Harry Witherspoon
in
The Lucky Stiff. He plans on a career as a composer writing for
film, television, theater, theme parks and special events.
Rick was recently commissioned to compose the theme song for the 2006
Disney Music Convention. This opportunity came about when Disney heard the
theme songs he composed for the Disneyland website,
www.visionsfantastic.com. All of the music at VisionsFantastic, billed as
the web's largest Disneyland fan site, has been composed by McKee. He used
fellow OCU music majors to perform the vocals. McKee also recently won an
Award of Excellence at Oklahoma's Kennedy Center American College Theater
Festival for best original music composition for his score accompanying OCU's
production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons.
Rick recently finished composing, recording and mixing his piece
Celebrate the Magic, the official theme song for the Disney Music
Convention. The piece will premiere in November at Disney's convention in
Seattle. The work was recorded by acclaimed Disney studio vocalists Michelle
Amato and David Wise. Michelle and David recorded and stacked the vocals to
sound like a very tight chorus. "Disney works have impeccable vocal harmonies
with an impossibly amazing blend," said McKee. "I cant begin to express how
grateful I am to not only have the opportunity to write for such an amazing
event, but also to be working with the incredible Disney vocalists. It really
is a dream come true!"
