Finding Nemo: Submarine Voyage

Welcome to our Coverage of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage Grand Opening Celebration. Brett Garrett ('DaddyB') and I (Chris Lang) attended the Grand Opening Festivities. Our coverage began the morning of June 10th (Sunday):

DaddyB and Chris arrive at the Media Center at 9:30AM

Interior of the Media Center: 10:00AM - Food, drinks and most importantly, Wi-Fi was provided by Disney.

Ahhhhh! The Nemo Bus! It stayed here throughout the Media Party, but it was gone before the Grand Opening Ceremony.

I'm Nemo! (This radio controlled character has been seen throughout Tomorrowland). It pretty much stayed in place here during the Press Party.

Ed Grier, Disneyland Present beings the festivities. Ed recaps the "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion.  He segues into the Nintendo DS "Pirates of the Caribbean" game where players can get cheats and codes by finding specific 'hot spots' inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and Pirates Lair.

Next, Ed Grier talks about the Disney Cruise line coming to the West Coast and some of the cruises that will be offered. (Photo by Chris Lang)

Imagineering Executive Tom Fitzgerald comes out and introduces Beaker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew come out and do a quick demonstration of the "Living Character". Several fun effects and gadgets emerge from the vehicle. We'll have greater details on this later. (Photo by Chris Lang)

At the end, the vehicle sprays the audience with water and "Silly String" (Photo by Chris Lang)

The subject goes back to Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Special tools were created to view the ride "virtually" before any construction commenced. This aided animators at Pixar to get the timings right on the multiple animations in the attraction. (Photo by Chris Lang)

Sound had to be edited in the same fashion. In this mockup of the actual 50 foot sub, the designer can see the attraction from any of the portholes to get timings and synchronizations. (Photo by Chris Lang)

Tom explained that these are the same subs from 1959 but they've been greatly improved with electrical powered engines and an advanced sound system.
