VF Update: Marty Sklar Window Dedication
A special VF Update by Cavemandon.
I arrived at 7am at the media check in area in front of the west exit gates.
There were not many other media type folks there, but I saw lots of
Disneyland Cast Members and Imagineers standing in groups around the area.
Once the media was inside the park and in our places on a platform, the
dignitaries started to enter. Disney Imagineers both old and new were there.

A podium was setup in front of the Group Tours building.

Alice Davis was on hand to witness this historical event.

Disney Imagineers from across the country were seated in
front of the podium while Disneyland Cast Members gathered around the roped
off area and along the stairs leading up to the DLRR Main Street Station to
watch.

Marty Sklar arrived on the Main Street Fire Engine. This
is the same Fire Engine that Walt used to move about the park.

When Marty arrived, he was greeted by Mickey and the other
Fab Five.

Once Marty was seated, Disneyland President Ed Grier was announced and
walked out of City Hall, then met Mickey near the podium.

Ed excused Mickey and the Fab Five to get things ready for
the ceremony.

Ed Grier then started his speech, thanking Marty for 54
years of service not only to Walt Disney, but to every guest that have ever
walked into a Disney park. Right in the middle of his speech, the doors to
the Guided Tour’s building opened and a tour came out. The guide was telling
the tour about the park and its icons.

Then the tour stopped in front of Marty and the guide started telling
everyone about Marty and how he spent many hours in the City Hall building
with Walt designing the park.
She then pointed to a window on City Hall covered by what
she called a drape. She noted that that wasn’t there during yesterday’s
tour, shrugged it off and moved on with the tour making a comment about
taking the tour down to the miles and miles of tunnels under Disneyland.

After Ed Grier finished his speech, he invited the Bruce
Vaughn who is the Chief Creative Executive of Walt Disney Imagineering up to
the podium.

He told stories about Marty in his early years.

Then he introduced former Disneyland President Jack
Lindquist who had everyone in tears from laughter with his stories about the
early years.

Disneyland President Ed Grier then invited the Fab Five
back out to do the honors of unveiling Marty’s new window.

Which they promptly did.

Confetti cannons went off…

And it looked like Ed Grier was a bit surprised on the
amount of confetti.

A replica of the window was brought
out to show those in the seats.

Then the tour group returned with the
guide talking more about the early years around the park.

All of a sudden, the tour guide started
sing, “It’s a great big beautiful tomorrow!” Other singers started standing up
from the chairs.

Cast Members started joining in the song
and moved behind the Fab Five.

White doves were released as the song reached its peak.

Mickey and Minnie kissed.

Then the Fab Five started hugging Marty.

The Disney Imagineers that came for the
ceremony started milling about hugging each other and talking.

Here is the window on City Hall.

Disneyland Cast Member TV then
interviewed Marty while park guests looked on.

Here is a close up of the replica of the
window.

Disney Legends and previous Main Street
window dedicatee Bob Gurr was on hand to see Marty get his window.

Bob Gurr had on a pin that other Disney
Imagineers also wore.

And here is the man himself, Marty Sklar.
