Default Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = Dark Shadows ?

So is this a bad joke perpetrated on Warner Brothers by Disney, Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp ?

I just watched the trailer of Dark Shadows, due out in May. As a child of the 60's and 70's, And a fan of the original soap opera, I was thinking, huh ?

Famous actors like Kate Jackson (Charlies Angels), and John Karlen ( Cagney and Lacey), played characters in the original soap, as well as two full length movies were made as a result of the popularity of the show, so how did Tim Burton come up with the idea to make it a comedy ?

Like a bad train wreck, I plan on going to see it to see just how bad it is, but I'm thinking, thank God Disney didn't decide to put their name on it.

Good lord I thought this was a joke...I'm not sure what to think. The original Dark Shadows was such a classic...to make it a comedy..?? But it is Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. And much to my surprise...I do find the trailer pretty funny! Oh well...of course I'm going to see it.

I'm pretty much expecting this "movie" to be a satirical commentary on the times, not so much of an actual celebration of a classic TV show.

My wife was also a fan of the show, however, she wasn't even a teenager when Dark Shadows aired its final episode in '71. So we'll see how this goes.

I grew up with Dark Shadows, and I too was not a teenager yet when this show went off the air, but I remember VERY well watching the final episode. I remember for years prior watching the show on my little 13" black and white tv in the bedroom I shared with my brother, sitting on my bed, clutching the pillow to hide my eyes when it got too scary.

THIS movie is a joke, and I'm really dreading seeing it on opening weekend. Yeah, you read that right. Opening weekend I will be there.

Okay, I went with my wife to see this movie, and sadly, my predictions about this movie came true. This movie had a ton of great graphics, but that's the only good thing. The attempts to bring a new generation up to speed on the original show left a lot to be desired. I didn't find anything funny about the movie, in fact I felt embarassed for anyone that put their name on this disaster, and I vowed never to subject myself to that movie ever again.

To Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, this movie was an epic failure.

To Karen, if you're reading this, It did bring back fond memories of going with you to the movies and watching "House of Dark Shadows", on Halloween night in 1971.
