An evening of tribute and celebration for the Chouinard Art Institute will be held at the Roy and Edna Disney/CALArts Theater (REDCAT). CALarts president Steven Levine will be joined by alumna and Costume Designer Alice Estes Davis as well as Gianina Ferreyra, a filmmaker currently creating a documentary about Chouinard’s founder as well as the Institute. The discussion will focus on how the Chouinard Art Institute influenced the emergence of Los Angeles as an internationally recognized center for art.

The Chouinard Art Institute's importance to animation can hardly be overstated. Hundreds of animation professionals were trained by the institute over the decades, and the instutitute became the foundation for CALarts in the 1960s. You could credibly argue that without Chouinard, the animation industry as we know it would never have existed.
