Disney Cruise Line's Disney Fantasy floats out from the shipyard

Disney Cruise Line celebrates Disney Fantasy ‘Float Out

    Disney Parks Blog
Yesterday was a big day for Disney Cruise Line as we watched our newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, float out of the enclosed building dock at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany for the very first time! Thousands of visitors lined the shore, celebrating the occasion with Captain Mickey Mouse and, of course, a fireworks spectacular. This special maritime event, known as “Float Out,” marks the biggest construction milestone for the Disney Fantasy to date, less than 90 days before the ship welcomes guests for her maiden voyage.

The entire “Float Out” process took about two hours but we put together this short time lapse video so that you, too, could get a glimpse at this magnificent ship as she emerged from the dock. Here in Germany the excitement is contagious and I’m glad I got to share it with you! video

Disney Fantasy's conveyance to the North Sea

Disney Fantasy nears trip to America
Disney's newest ship makes trip down Ems River

    WESH-tv
The Disney Fantasy is one step closer to its voyage to Central Florida. During a process called conveyance, the ship was taken backwards down the Ems River to Eemshaven in Germany. As the ship was taken down the Ems River, members of the community gathered along the banks to watch and cheer the ship along the way.

The 30-mile journey takes the ship to the North Sea, where her engines will undergo testing and adjustments before making the crossing to the United States. After sea trials, the Disney Fantasy will make its way to New York City, where the ship will be christened on March 1. After that, the ship will be Florida bound. The Fantasy's maiden voyage departs from Port Canaveral on March 31.

The Disney Fantasy, like its sister ship, the Dream, is being built by Meyer Werft, a shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

    First look at Disney Fantasy

First look at Disney's new Fantasy

    Fox News
Last week a select group of journalists donned hard hats for a first look at Disney Fantasy in Amsterdam, where the vessel is in its final stages of preparation for her New York debut in March, where it will be christened. The Fantasy, which leaves New York on March 2 for Port Canaveral and her maiden voyage on March 31, will sail out of Port Canaveral, Fla. offering seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Fantasy is the sister ship to Disney Dream, unveiled just last year. While the two new ships are very similar in superstructure, the décor and added features make Fantasy unique. Dream displays the more industrialized look of Art Deco, but Fantasy has an Art Nouveau theme with softer, more delicate lines and colors. It seems like a subtle difference, but it affects a lot. The decorative themes are subtle, but everywhere — especially in the fabrics, railings, ceiling trims, carpet and drape patterns, even the china. It is most noticeable in the Buena Vista Movie Theater, where first-run Disney movies are shown in the same 3–D format as theaters on land.

Mariah Carey helps christen new Disney cruise ship Fantasy in New York

    Washington Post
Singer Mariah Carey helped christen the new Disney cruise ship Fantasy at a Hudson River pier in Manhattan on Thursday night and promised to bring her twins back to enjoy some Disney hospitality. “I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it,” said Carey as she stood with Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs, and of course Mickey Mouse.

The ceremony was held inside the ship’s atrium with a fake larger-than-life bottle of Champagne that sprayed the room with shiny confetti while Carey’s husband Nick Cannon stood on deck with a real bottle in the company of Minnie Mouse.

Disney Cruise Line contributes $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of New York

    Disney Parks Blog
It’s no secret that we’re excited for the March 1 christening of our new ship, the Disney Fantasy. In fact, we’re so excited that we’ve decided to share that joy with some of the local community, especially the New York area Boys & Girls Clubs.

After the ship pulled into port, Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line, was joined by several Disney VoluntEARS and Captain Mickey Mouse where they surprised the children at the Frederic Douglass Academy Clubhouse in New York City with a $100,000 donation to support the New York area Boys & Girls Clubs. The donation will help fund programs at Boys & Girls Clubs throughout New York City that teach children character and leadership, develop life and health skills and expand their creativity and cultural awareness through the arts.

    Disney Parks Blog
Wow, what a Thursday night in New York City for Disney Cruise Line. As Tom Staggs shared earlier, we christened the newest ship in our fleet, the Disney Fantasy, with a grand ceremony that included celebrity performances, the introduction of a world-class crew and the official announcement of the ship’s godmother, Mariah Carey. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Tom once again presided over the gala ceremony.

The Disney Fantasy begins sailing on March 31, 2012. She will sail from Port Canaveral, Fla., on seven-night Caribbean itineraries.

Over 4500 fans and well wishers gathered at Jetty Park in Port Canaveral, Florida, on Saturday to wish the Disney Fantasy “Bon Voyage.” It’s always a crowd pleaser when the ships use their magical horns to play “When You Wish Upon a Star” just before it enters the open sea on the way for its inaugural voyage.
