Default Should I take my niece to Disneyland?

Hey everyone! I need your opinion on something. I have a 7 year old niece who will be turning 8 in June. I want to surprise her with a trip to Disneyland to celebrate her birthday. There is only one thing keeping me from doing this. I have a 12 year old nephew who has Asperger's and Bipolar Disorder. He has a really hard time with Disneyland and gets overwhelmed very easily. That being said I thought I could just take my niece. Do you think it would be unfair of me to not take my nephew? Do you think it would hurt his feelings that I took his sister and not him? Please any input would be appreciated!

I think your niece would love it! Your nephew on the other hand may feel left out, but if you explain it to him that the two of you will do something special for his birthday that will not interfere with his medical needs he hopefully will understand. Because he has a medical issue his sister should not be so-called punished. I have a niece who got to go for a week, but her now brother had to stay home because his adoption was not final yet and he could not cross state lines...he was only 4 but I know what kind of a situation you are facing...just be upfront, put it on his level, & most importantly if you promise to do something special 1 on 1 for his birthday honor that promise!

Just say that it's for her birthday, and on his birthday you guys will do something together also.

I think you should take her, she would love it.

I agree with both of the above posts. Take her to Disneyland for her birthday, and find something that he'd enjoy for his. No one is being left out; each one gets his/her own birthday treat.

Remember that NOT getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it, I think you are right! I will just try and make plans to do something special with my nephew, something that he will really love and then it will be alright! Thanks everyone!
