Aladdin's 10,000 performances at Disney California Adventure

Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular marks 10,000th performance at DCA

On Saturday, September 8 at 2:20 pm, the performance of Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater truly was special, as it was the 10,000th since the show debuted on January 17, 2003. To commemorate the occasion, show director Sue Hamilton gave a heart-felt speech before the opening curtain. Saying, “We are here because of you, our guests,” she welcomed the audience on behalf of all at the Disneyland Resort. She noted that while the Genie grants three wishes, today they felt they had been granted 10,000 wishes. Thanking the show’s loyal audience members, she concluded, “You are our true genie.”

The production went off without a hitch (and without the flying carpet, which has been missing since last Fall). Keeping the show fresh for nearly ten years has been the task of a succession of Genie performers, whose topical jokes keep audiences coming back again and again. Near the end of the show, as the evil Jafar took control of the lamp, the Genie pointed out, “This has not worked out for you 9,999 times before.”
