    Composer Marvin Hamlisch Dead at 68

    Wall Street Journal
    Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch, the man behind the scores for such movies as The Way We Were and Sophie’s Choice, has died at the age of 68. He passed away in Los Angeles after a brief illness, according to the Associated Press.

    Over his career, he won three Academy Awards, four Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes and the Pulitzer Prize.

    Default Disneyland by Marvin Hamlish

    Are you wondering what the Disney connection is? Hamlish partnered with the late Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid) to write a muscal called Smile, which opened on Broadway in 1986 starring Jodi Benson (also of The Little Mermaid fame). Included in the production is a song called "(I Believe in) Disneyland". The show wasn't sucessful, but the song lives on. It was recently recorded by Kerry Butler on an album of Disney songs titled Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust.
