Default Russo Brothers in to direct

Russo Brothers in final talks to direct

Russo Brothers in final talks to direct 'Captain America 2'

    Hollywood Reporter
Anthony and Joe Russo are close to finalizing a deal to direct the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger for Marvel Studios. The brothers continue Marvel’s strategy of finding unorthodox helmers for their movies. The Russos are known more for their work in comedy, having directed You, Me & Dupree and directing and executive producing the low-rated but strongly followed NBC comedy Community.

The Russos beat out George Nolfi, the Bourne Ultimatum writer who made his directorial debut with The Adjustment Bureau. The bake-off lasted the better part of a month, with the contenders forced to study The Avengers as part of their exam. F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job; Set it Off; Friday) also was an early contender.

    Default Casting for Falcon

Anthony Mackie in talks to play Falcon

Anthony Mackie in talks to play Falcon in 'Captain America' sequel

    Hollywood Reporter
Marvel is moving ahead on casting its latest project Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is in negotiations to star alongside Chris Evans in the sequel that is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the subtitle suggests a respected comic book storyline from the 2000s that resurrected Captain America's sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider.

While Marvel would not comment nor divulge character details, it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon, one of mainstream comics' first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one. The character, Sam Wilson, is Harlem-based and had many street adventures with Cap in the 1970s comics, when he served as his partner. He derives his powers from a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength. He can also telepathically talk to birds. In current comics, Falcon is a key player in many of Cap's espionage adventures.

The film will be released April 4, 2014.

Default Female casting for ‘Captain America 2′

Female casting for ‘Captain America 2

Five actresses testing for ‘Captain America 2′ role
Black Widow might drop by as well

    Deadline New York
Marvel is readying Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have a short list of five actresses for a significant new role. Game of Thrones‘ Emelia Clarke, Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay, Warm Bodies‘ Teresa Palmer, Knight Of Cups‘ Imogen Poots and The Five Year Engagement‘s Alison Brie are testing for it.

Marvel cleverly signs these actors on for as many as nine options, which gives them the latitude to cross pollinate the films with multiple superheroes. At first this was annoyance to talent and their dealmakers–Marvel is known for being stingy–but The Avengers worked so well that it’s a career coup to be in the mix on Marvel movies because most of them turn out so well. And it certainly works for the audience.
