The Broadway version of this with Bernadette Peters was a hoot! Hopefully they stay faithful to the soyrce material.
“There's other ways of learnin' about the behind feet of a mule than gettin' kicked by 'em… And just cause these here tales is about critters like Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox, that don’t mean they ain’t the same like can happen to folks. So them what can’t learn from a tale about critters, just ain’t got their ears tuned for listening…”

    Default Central Park

There's a revival performance of Into the Woods at Delacorte Theater in Central Park, New York. Disney is probably eyeing this production as an unofficial tryout, since it stars Amy Adams, and supporting cast includes Donna Murphy (as the witch) and Glenn Close (as the giantess): All have a sucessful history with Walt Disney Pictures.

I love 'Into the Woods' and would be very excited to see this come to fruition.
I keep wishing it could be that way, because my world would be a Wonderland.

    'Into the Woods' casting

Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal circling musical 'Into the Woods'
Rob Marshall is directing the adaptation of the Broadway musical that has Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep already on board

    Hollywood Reporter
Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine are in discussions to join Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep in Disney’s adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Deal-making hasn’t quite begun but the two actors met and even sang for director Rob Marshall for their respective parts and are expected to receive offers to join the star-studded cast. If deals close, Gyllenhaal and Pine would play their first on-screen singing roles. Sources say that Gyllenhaal and Pine would play the musical’s two princes, Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince, brothers who are pompous and self-absorbed.

Streep will play the plum role of the vain and charismatic Witch while Depp will play a hungry and sexy variation of a fairy tale wolf.

John DeLuca is producing. James Lapine wrote the screenplay, based on his book for the 1986 musical. The Tony-winning original score is by Stephen Sondheim while frequent Marshall collaborator David Krane is working on the music arrangements for the film.

A fall production start is being eyed. The project is expected to attract more big names.
