Disney announces Cars Land opening time
Orange County Register
Disney California Adventure will open the major Cars Land area in June, the Disney president announced Tuesday. Bob Iger, the Walt Disney Co.’s president and chief executive officer, announced the opening month for the 12-acre Cars Land during a conference call with investors about quarterly earnings Tuesday. Up until this point, Disney would only confirm that Cars Land will open in the summer, when it will conclude the park’s $1-billion makeover project.
Cars Land is the largest part of the five-year expansion project with three rides, a man-built mountain range, stores and restaurants that look like Radiator Springs, the fictional town in the “Cars” movies.

Life's a happy song!
I still think it's lame that it is just called Cars Land, I'm surprised they didn't give it any more of a themed name. A Bug's Land makes sense because the movie is called A Bug's Life, but Cars Land is just lazy. Radiator Springs? Route 66?

June 15 at Disney California Adventure park

When Cars Land opens June 15, the tiny town of Radiator Springs will also be teeming with atmosphere entertainment inspired by the Disney•Pixar film, Cars.
Red the Fire Truck shows up with his sirens blaring and his bell ringing, heading to meet up with his good buddy, a Volunteer Firefighter. The Firefighter lets everyone know the flowers in the area need watering. It’s “Red to the Rescue,” but each time the Firefighter attempts to use Red’s hose, it backfires on him! In all the fun, the plants manage to get wet, and you might too!
Bringing a completely different kind of beat to the street is DJ’s Dance & Drive. DJ, the ultimate party car, rolls into town with his giant speakers, built-in disc changer and his very own dance party, led by a girl named Spinner. This gang stops traffic everywhere they go, creating a spontaneous, interactive dance party. Spinner and the crew teach us moves like the Overdrive, the Reverse and the Hairpin Turn, while DJ calls up the hits, from “Life in the Fast Lane” to “Car Wash.” DJ’s going to shift Cars Land into high gear!

I think what would be awesome in Red to the Rescue, is if we had a revisit from Mater the Fire Fighter from the Cars Toon short!
Cars Land is going to be the best!

Is this the same Red from the D23 Expo Carousel of Projects? I assumed that was for Racers...
Life's a happy song!
Disney Parks Blog has some gorgeous photos up of Cars Land at night.

I can just imagine sitting there when night hits, and it's the town springs to life, just like the first movie...
This is going to be so amazing. As much as I love the idea of DJ coming through, I honestly hope that's more of a show than something that really lasts throughout the night like ElecTRONica or GlowFest... There would just be no point to Radiator Springs...

The real Route 66
Cars Land inspiration: Greetings from Route 66 in Arizona
Orange County Register
You can go to the new Cars Land at Disney California Adventure or rent the DVD of its inspiration, the animated movie "Cars," which follows race car Lightning McQueen and his misadventures on Route 66. But for a real joy ride, you'll have to get your own car and head out to the Mother Road. While the entire stretch from Lake Michigan in Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier is an awesome road trip, for the real feel of the post-World War II heyday of the highway, there's no better section than the drive across the desert of Arizona.
It's here you'll find the lost worlds of fictional Radiator Springs from the Pixar-Disney movie, dusty and faded towns of the past whose present has been passed by Interstate 40. Though Route 66 stretched 2,448 miles from Illinois to California, my bet is the mythical town of the movie is somewhere along the hot blacktop that crosses Arizona. Route 66's "golden age" lasted from 1937, when the last stretch of pavement was finished, to 1967, when the beginnings of Interstate 40 were laid out. It died in 1985, officially erased from the list of federal highways. The remains of the old Mother Road were left for dead, but the memories remained.
This is where the real Radiator Springs might be found. The fictional town never gets an exact setting (though we'll visit its main inspiration). I'll tell the story of the spots in fragments – just like you'll find what's left of the highway. continue
