Default 4th of July at the Parks

So, as far as I can remember, I've never been to the parks during 4th of July but I'm now going this year (thanks to them moving the finishing date of Paradise Pier to July 3rd) instead of my original June 15th date. Aside from the expected insanely packed crowds, what can I expect in terms of celebration? Do they change-up any shows or have specific decorations? Is there a special fireworks show?

I think Disneyland switches up the 4th of July fireworks from year to year, but last year they presented “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" on four consecutive nights beginning on July 1st. Not sure how it's going to work this year, but I'm sure there will be fireworks dedicated to the 4th.

They usually play special 4th of July fireworks for a number of days leading up to the 4th. Expect large crowds, but probably not to full park capacity.

Yea, the fireworks show is different. And I think they hand out stuff? Maybe that's only for New Year's...

Hmmmm, well, last night I was trying to decide when would be a good time to visit the parks this summer when the crowds won't be as bad (and when all current construction is done), but I almost feel it's unavoidable with all of the new attractions debuting. Any advice?

If I could go this summer I would wait and go around August 12th. Both of the lower passes are still blocked out and summer vacations are starting to wind down because people are prepping the kiddos for returning to school. All of the construction that will be done this summer will be open and the initial crush of pass holders will be easing a bit. If I could go to the land I would be planning a trip for that time.

So here's a question I hope I can get some help on:

Would it really make a difference in terms of how packed the parks are if I choose to go 4th of July weekend, or the weekdays right after it (5th - )?

This is just a guess, but I think the days after would be better.

Remember that NOT getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck
