No idea, but I'm glad Captain EO is at DLR again!!!
Ive been thinking...since Captain EO has returned to the Magic Eye Theater at Epcot and has replaced HISTA...Is their a possibility that Disney is using Captain EO as a way to later on bring a brand new show to the Magic Eye theater? Will HISTA return or will captain EO stay?
No idea, but I'm glad Captain EO is at DLR again!!!
I really don't want Captain EO to stay...I know it sounds a little harsh but the attraction lacks its 3D/4D feel...maybe just not enough effects to give me the full feel of being in the attraction...In other words I wouldn't really call Captain EO a attraction at all...more like a movie since it lacks its own attraction feel and kinda downgrades it to like watching a movie...or a live concert...I dint really like that when I go to a 3D/4D attraction...not that I have ever seen a attraction that has a movie style feel... I think the theater needs something new...A 4D attraction that is just as good as Mickey's Philharmagic but maybe even better...really I wouldn't mind having HISTA back...I like the scary special effects..such as the scary rat scene...I guess that's what Captain EO is missing...The thrill of a real 4D atraction.

I just saw Captain EO at Disneyland this past weekend and the overall effects were not very good. (Both the 3D and the in-theater effects). With the kind of work done on "Avatar" they definitely have their work cut out for them to improve 3D experiences at theme parks that go beyond blowing wind in your face or misting you with water.

You still have to remember, Chris. That being one of the main reason I did dislike Avatar was because of the graphics. Avatar took over 10 years to make mainly because of special effects. If Disney has any plans, or green-lit things even a while ago, those ideas are only just going to be coming up on the first lift hill, not even the highest point on the coaster yet. So even comparing the recent implementation of Capt. EO to Avatar is almost sick if placed in the perspective you should be having. (No offence) It is my hope that by the time I visit the Walt Disney World Resort in late February that Capt. EO has much more to offer, same to the Disneyland version. I would believe that if it is getting such rave reviews now, then the idea of keeping it permanently and adding better effects back in will only heighten the reviews it already has.

I think you misunderstood me - I'm not saying that EO should look like Avatar, I'm saying that the theme park industry has traditionally been AHEAD of what you could go see at your local multiplex in terms of quality of presentation. Until they can reach or exceed what people can see in their local multiplex, I think its going to be difficult to market 3D films in theme parks.
I appreciated Captain EO on what it had to offer in the 80's, and it was a great bit of nostalgia, but trying to market it as anything more than nostalgia to a contemporary audience is problematic.
I'm not bagging on EO, I just think the industry needs to come up with something else to compete with films like Avatar, who clearly pushed the envelope as far as immersion in a 3D world.

Ahh ok, some clarification need then, and now answered. I had thought you were saying EO wasn't as good as films like Avatar and needed to step up it's game. Also that Disney should do something about making the technology better. I was merely mentioning that the technology and time it took to put avatar together took over 10 years and that if Disney had put anything to action even a while ago would just be starting production phase. So maybe Disney has something coming or not. We'll know soon enough.

I think EO will remain in Tomorrowland at least until the DCA expansion is complete. Like what's being discussed with Innoventions overhaul and the Peoplemover possibly returning, I believe Disney will look into giving Tomorrowland an entire face lift.

Reading the posts of some of the other members here has made me realize why I really do not care that much for Captain EO. In the 80's it was far ahead of its time and pretty impressive to the audiences. But, since then music videos have become a defacto method of listening to music, i.e. MTV, VH1, CMT, etc, etc. We have become so used to music videos that Captain EO is not offering anything new. Now it seems like just another music video.
Nice to see EO back in DLR but the effects of today have caught up or surpassed the 3D superfilm which is now back in the magic eye theatre, EO will be a good Idea for a few years and then start to fade away, MJ is talented but not all will appreciate his talents like we did back in the 80's
