Default Pixar's 'Brave' (Bear & The Bow)

Atlanta Braves sue Pixar over Brave trademark

Disney face legal action from US sports team over animated film set in Scotland

    Scotland Daily Record
The Atlanta Braves say they are poised to launch a legal battle over the title of the film Brave, which is being made by Disney firm Pixar. The film is about a princess who has to undo a curse.

But chiefs at the Georgia-based Major League side have objected to Disney’s attempts to trademark the word “Brave” for merchandising to tie in with the film. They say the movie title could damage the team’s brand and that the public will be confused by its use. Although the team does not possess any trademark on the singular form of the name “Brave”, lawyers argue it has been used for team merchandising and in reference to players.

Lawyers for Disney and the Atlanta National League Baseball Club, owners of the Atlanta Braves, are currently locked in private talks over the dispute in a bid to reach a settlement.

The latest trailer for Brave is actually an extended clip:

I may sound old fashioned in saying this, but, as much as I'm looking forward to seeing this one, I hope there's a lot less of rude humor, i.e. the father of the competitor that moons the crowd, and more heartfelt dialogue and action. Love the idea of the mother-daughter dynamic. Or actually the idea of the hero or heroine having TWO parents. It's always been kind of a rarity in Disney movies.

    Default Just another Princess movie?

Is 'Brave' just another Disney Princess movie?

Is Pixar's 'Brave' just another Disney Princess movie?

    Forbes
I’ve been singing Brave’s praises now for quite a while. With the release of each new teaser, the movie looks increasingly brilliant. A strong female lead – and this is Pixar’s first – and gorgeous animation only make the Scottish fantasy setting even more amazing.

But not everyone agrees. Otaku Kun thinks we’ve been here before. In American cinema, he argues, “the trope of the oppressed girl who takes control of her own destiny has been done to death.” He lists some of Disney’s beloved heroines to prove his point... continue

Compare all the clips and shots of this film to all those in the first Toy Story. This is absolutely incredible. I'm proud of Pixar for coming such a long way.

Default 'Brave' at Edinburgh film festival

Pixar's 'Brave' at Edinburgh film festival

Pixar's 'Brave' to close 2012 Edinburgh International Film Festival
Set in mythical Scotland, the movie will mark its European premiere at the festival July 1

    Hollywood Reporter
The Disney-Pixar animated Scottish adventure Brave is to bring this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival to a close, organizers said. The movie, featuring a voice cast that reads like a who’s who of Scottish stars including Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Kevin McKidd and Craig Ferguson, has been selected as closing night film for the festival.

The movie’s pick was announced by Scottish first minister Alex Salmond and EIFF artistic director Chris Fujiwara at a tourism conference in Scotland. Salmond, the leader of the Scottish Parliament, said he was delighted to announce that “Hollywood will roll into town during the Edinburgh International Film Festival when we host the European premiere of Brave.”

The festival runs June 20 through July 1, 2012.

    Hi all!
I received some character stuff for the film, as well as a link to the latest clips... It looks like there will be a series of shorts (comprised of clips from the movie) that will give some background on each of the characters from the movie. We'll see how Disney follows through on that.

The first character to be featured, and rightly so, is Merida.
(click on any image for the MUCH, MUCH larger version (appx 3.5mb each)

and then there are these handrawn character studies...

Here's the document Disney attached with a breakdown of the movie plot, characters, voice actors and director:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. From Disney and Pixar, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition andchallenges destiny to change her fate.

“Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrongdaughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproariouslords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters)for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources – including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers – to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor that audiences of all ages around the world have come to eagerly expect. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

    Default Scots animator protests 'Brave'

Scots animator protests Brave's placement in film festival

Scots moviemaker furious at parliament's backing for rival Disney animation

    Scotland Daily Record
Scots film-maker Tessa Hartmann has slammed Alex Salmond’s Scottish Government, accusing them of ignoring her animated feature in favour of Disney Pixar movie Brave.

Sir Billi, which has been in production for six years, premiered at the Sonoma International Film Festival in Californialast weekend. But American-made Brave has been picked out as a highlight of the Edinburgh Film Festival later this year and is being promoted heavily by VisitScotland.

Tessa, who openly backs the Tories, said: “The Scottish Government have put £7million of above-the-line advertising and promotions into Brave. Wouldn’t it have been nice if the Government said they would support and nurture a film business in Scotland?”

But the Scottish Government hit back at the criticism. A spokesman said: “Brave will be the biggest film ever set in and themed around Scotland. It will be released in 72 countries and seen by several hundred millions of people. The film represents an unprecedented opportunity to encourage audiences around the world to visit Scotland.”

I swore there was something about Loreena McKennitt doing some singing in the score. Oh well. Hopes dashed.

I can tell you all this though: Ratzenberger's voice will probably be easy to pick out.

Also: Gonna be an awesome movie!
