^Plus, judging from what I've heard, the organization of the show wouldn't work because not everyone can be at the park all day.

It's still the same park the name is the only thing that's changed. I still call it MGM Studios.

Hollywood Studios...or whatever doesn't sound right, like MGM has a ring to it for some reason. I dunno maybe cause we are so used to it.

I liked the Idol idea actually, I'm curious to see how long it will run.

It's syllables. People hate names with a lot of syllables. How's Disney's California Adventure for syllables? Disney's Hollywood Studios ain't that far behind. Calling the place 'MGM' needs all of 3 syllables. That's much easier, and we know how people like easy...

But the easy way could get Disney sued now.

I don't blame Disney for creating the "Disney's Hollywood Studios" name. While it's not the name I would have picked, it is kinda funny that people hang on to the only part of the park's former name that had to go.

Come to think of it, people hate syllables, but LOVE acronyms! They're so simple, just remember a few easy letters! So what's a good new acronym? DHS? Accurate, but sounds like a government agency. Hmmm...

But that isn't the same thing. DCA isn't DCA to a casual Tourist. it's Disney's California Adventure. MGM was just MGM..it wasn't Disney's Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios. so a change to the DCA name would just be a change in letters. MGM is now DHS.

- - - - - - - - -

Personally I wonder why they didn't just change it to "The Disney Studios". They've been calling it that for years, why not make it official? why add the Hollywood there. they could always call it hollywoodland...but that be cheesy. then again...hollywood itself did change it's name...and so did Siam. so name changing isn't exclusive to the likes of theme parks obviously. but that isn't my point.

as long as MGM(DHS) keeps the old Hollywood undertone such as the vintage billboard and such...I perfectly fine with the name change. it is just the idea of modernizing the blissful vintage Hollywood glamor undertone, the romanticized view of film, to "modern" Hollywood glamor just makes me quite angry

The Hollywood Pictures Backlot section in DCA is planned to be re-named Hollywoodland. Before you laugh the original Hollywood sign used to say Hollywoodland until they removed land years later.

Ok Indiana Jones is new-ish but that's been there almost since the parks opening..Lights, Motors Action came from Paris for the Year of a Million Dreams...and now they have the HSM PepRally..woo hoo...the park overall is relatively the same it just has had a few additions over the years its overal atmosphere now is that of MOVIES not just older ones...yes i agree that the 30s/40s are great to escape to but Disney is also realizing the truth that most people dont and while yes they can stick to the things that have worked b4 they also need to work sum on what can work now to keep people interested.....and another thing is that the American Idol was announced way back at the beginning of February and production began almost immediatly and is going on right now, so how come so many people are freaking out now (um...4 1/2 months later)....?

Queso.... They did destroy the backlot tour! Sure Catastrophy canyon is still there and the walking tour but now, we see the stunt show practicing! I would rather see the set of the Golden Girls and all the other houses they had on display. Disney Studios (or whatever you want to call it...) isn't what it used to be....

the backlot tour...is a graveyard and now I don't mean the props. I mean seriously. it has nothing anymore. best thing about it is the villain exhibit

I personally love the new name and logo. "The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer—in music, television, movies and theater" is just a cover up for "we got alot of lawsuits from MGM since we broke the contract multiple times." The real story is that MGM and Disney signed a contract back in the 80s when the park was under development stating that they may use the name. When Disney started actually taping TV specials and other media at Disney-MGM Studios Park, they were actually breaking the contract because MGM stated that people would think the productions were produced and taped by MGM, and not Disney. Luckily, Disney won the lawsuit. Finally, they decided to change the name. I think it's one of the best decisions Walt Disney World Resort made!
