Well, it's not so terrible that I wouldn't touch it with a 50ft pole. I just wouldn't make it a nightly priority to see it, nor would I feel all that bad if I ended up missing it for one reason or another.

Ah, a number of us may not like it as much as Disneyland's, but I wouldn't discount it until you've seen it yourself. I still enjoy it, even with all its shortcomings.

Not sure how that's possible when you're 10x closer to the fire here than at MGM. If anything that statement's the complete opposite in reality because at Disneyland you're actually close enough to the fire to feel it.

Again, in reality there's way more problems with this in a stadium setting than not. When you're seated at Disneyland, you're mostly looking up at the stage so no one's head is in your way. When standing, well, you're at the mercy of how tall you are. However, people know to arrive early enough to get their desired location at either the 9pm or 10:30pm Fantasmic!.

In the stadium, you're looking down at the stage, and you're forced to look through/around all the heads of folks around you. This is true regardless of personal height, unless you're lucky enough to be sitting behind a small child.

Ok could you please explain MGM's....
  • Painfully extended bubble scene
  • Pointless canoers
  • Superfluous Pocahontas scene
  • 10 or so villians in the dragon instead of 3
  • Jafar snake scene
  • Why Mickey dances around the dragon before finally deciding to shoot him
  • And more...

As far as the Pinocchio scene goes, it's a transition between the dancing elephants and ultimately the Peter Pan scene. Elephants lead to Pinocchio leads to Jiminy Cricket in his burst bubble leads to Monstro leads to Mickey going 'Uh-oh!' leads to the Pirate Ship. Remember this is Mickey's dream and not all dreams move coherently from image to image. That being said, no dream is an obvious showcase for random Disney characters like the bubble & Pocahontas scenes are in MGM's version.

This statement makes no sense.

You might get more people touting their Fantasmic! with more members from the WDW area on these boards but it won't change what I've cited above. I'd like for more WDW-oriented members here so I can read how they get around these details. I enjoy a rousing discussion but when things don't make sense, they don't make sense.

PMM, you have summarized everything of what I've been trying to tell people in all my time being here. Thank you!

That's essentially as I would put it as well. Certainly worth seeing if you have the open time, but it's not something I center my evening around if I have other plans (at DLR, Fantasmic! comes first for me).

PLEASE DONT JUDGE ME BY THE WAY I THINK BUT TO ME THE FANTASMIC AT DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS IS ALOT BETTER THAN THE ONE LOCATED AT DISNEYLAND BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES THE ONE AT HS HAVE A STADIUM MADE FOR FANTASMIC BUT ALSO THE FANTASMIC AT HS HAS A BETTER FINALE WITH THE WATER. THE FANTASMIC AT HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS IS LONGER THAN THE ONE AT DISNEYLAND AND IT ALSO HAS A DIFFERENT LAYOUT WITH THE MOUNTAIN. DISNEYLAND'S VERSION IS NOT BAD OR ANYTHING BUT I JUST THINK PEOPLE SHOULD THINK ALITTLE MORE WIDER ABOUT THE SHOW AT HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS AND START THINKING LESS ABOUT WHAT FANTASMIC HAS MORE FIREWORKS.

Yes, it always brings a tear to my eye seeing Mickey heroically killing the water while the dragon sits behind it wondering what's going on.

DIE WATER DIE!!!

It always amuses me how the dragon sits there for about a minute and a half, watching while Mickey prances around the stage. She could have just taken him out while he wasn't looking..

You don't need to shout. We understand that you like the one in DHS better than the one in Disneyland.

Lol. How 'bout some pros and cons?!

Before I begin my list of pros and cons, I must state my solid opinion. I have personally seen both versions, and after a nice long read in this thread, and some thinking, I think that both versions are great, but I think that Disneyland's versions is a bit more superior to the DHS version. Now I still think that the DHS version is still nice to see and I am very proud to as a WDW'er to have it, but when we have discussions like this and begin to think deeply into the subject, then it's when you see that one versions truly is better than the other.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Pros
  • Better Stage Setup (the mountain backdrop simply makes a better Sorcerer Mickey appearance. I would rather see Sorcerer Mickey appear from the top of a mountain than from a shed.)
  • The extra villains are a bit of a better addition I guess...
  • I really can't find anything else... Umm... Wow... I literally spent a half an hour thinking of what else to put...

Cons

  • The lighting compared to Disneyland's is pity but really the difference is that they make more use of the hydraulic lighting towers other than that the lights don't make that much of a difference.
  • The fountains are not as great as Disneyland's, If you look at the new Summer Nightastic Fantasmic! you will notice the fountains are a bit better. It's hard to explain just see it. Lol
  • The water projections are worse than in DL's. In DHS the projections don't really fill the entire water screen nor are they HD, although you can still see the projection the image is a bit clearer in DL's version.
  • The pyro isn't as good as the competitor's to simply put it. In the finale of DHS's Fantasmic the fireworks are ALL OVER THE PLACE so much you can barely even see Mickey Mouse. Not only that but there are some elements in DL's pyro that make DHS's not as great a show.
  • The Lion King scene I found a bit inferior to the Jungle Book scene from DL, same with the random characters in bubbles scene which I found quite a time-waster to say the least. Speaking of scenes I found the random canoes pointless and the Pocahontas scene I do not like but I dislike the Peter Pan sequence also so that's really no difference for me.
  • Worse finale.

Well as you can see I think DL's version of Fantasmic! Is better. As kirsten said I still get goosebumps in both, I still get that exciting feeling when Mickey Mouse appears centerstage in the beginning, I still love the both shows but when we talk so deeply into the we notice all the negative things. So there you are. :)

Booth fantasmic's are really good but i still think hollywood studios version really makes you feel like your in the action..............i dont know why everybody hates the finale with the wall of water........... I think that is what makes fantasmic better than disneyland and also the fireworks are 10 times better than disneyland even with the update because hollywood studios has more fireworks. Remember i love both versions but i love disneyworld's

I thinking defeating a dragon is better than prancing around attacking water.

Try visiting the Hollywood Studios website and looking at the calendar for show times and dates.

I like the WDW finale where Mickey pulls the Sword from the Stone, but no need to make it so long. I mean, you could have what's currently there (minus all the dancing) with Mick pulling the Sword in the Stone out, the water dousing the flames, etc. but just have Disneyland's music. The other things I have problems with?

The stage and seating arrangements:
I like the stage with the mountain, and I hope that soon in the future they will get a giant Chernabog puppet for that. What I don't like is how it's in a stadium ala Sea World. the Disneyland version adds to the fact that it's magical and not a show.

the Pocahontas scene:
1. Fantasmic is about fantasy and not history, which is why I love the Peter Pan sequence.
2. Where's all the action? Peter and Hook and the crew do tons and tons of action that sometimes goes over the water, suspended in midair, and tons of stuff. the Pochahontas scene is a bunch of settlers and Native Americans running around while fighting.

the fact Pinochhio isn't in the show:
I personally like the bubble montage, and we made a new one at the New Disney Resort thread, but without Pinochio, Jiminy Cricket's quote barely makes sense.

Villain Sequence:
I like all the villains and the fact they have a lot, which suggests a more evil bad side. We even did this at the New Disney Resort with a small scene that scrolls down to show tons of villains laughing menacingly. But what was the need of Jafar and the lamp? Mickey should have only went to Maleficent without destroying another villain.

The finale:
No problem whatsoever, but why is the boat so small? The big Mark Twain provides a nice, grand, triumphant feeling with fifty characters as compared to thirty.
