Question High cost of a Disney cruise

When many cruisers mention why they haven't been on a Disney cruise, the main reason seems to be the price. The main selling point, as some people see it, seems to be the Disney eclat or name. What is it that makes the Disney cruise worthwhile to be worth the price, besides meeting Mickey mouse????

I've never been on a Disney Cruise, or any cruise for that matter, but I just looked at prices.

An eight day cruise in october 2010, for an ocean view room was 2,600 for 4 people. On Disney Cruise lines. This was to the Caribbean. Carnival Cruise lines, for an 8 day cruise, in October 2010, for 4 people, and an ocean view room was abut 2,500

So Disney is about 100 dollars more than carnival. I suppose that difference is because you get to stop at castaway cay. Which is disney's private island, where only employee's live, and guests are only there when they're ship is there. I've heard it's a really nice place.

The HUGE advantage is the stop at Castaway Cay. ONLY Disney Cruise Line passengers visit this island. It's a major perk to just stopping at the tourist places in the Caribbean.

We haven't taken a Disney cruise either. We live in the Southwest and so to get to our destination in Florida, get a room for two or three days, a rental car (if needed) the extra 2-3 days worth of food (before the cruise leaves port) ect. would actually cost us an ADDITIONAL $1000 for our party of 4. It is simple to expensive for us. We can spend $1500 and take all four of us to Disneyland for 3-4 days.

Those prices are for October which is in Hurricane season. Most other times of the year the price for four people would be MUCH higher than that!! My wife and I went in May of 2006 for $3000.00 The same catagory room for the same time in 2010 is almost $6000.00. I don't see how the average person can afford this! Imagine the prices for the two new Disney ships coming soon.. mind boggling I'm sure
