Expedition Everest was interesting. Watching the ride video before I went kind of ruined it for me though.

For some reasonm I expected more from the ride.

It was still good though.

Videos tend to ruin the rides sometimes.
I thought that the ride was impressive. It had an intense call to detail and theming. That along makes it a great experience, even before you step into the station.

Ahem **cough cough** getting back to Everest, I gotta say even though I know its probably not true, it feels like you are pulling more G's backwards than forwards. The forward, minus the drop is very much like BTMRR. I told my wife this ride was kind of a cross between Splash Mountain minus the water and BTMRR with the addition of going backwards. I got the pleasure of riding it at night with a full moon directly over the incline as we are doing up the mountain and without a doubt it was one of the best views that Ive seen anywhere in WDW!!

yes techonlogicaly it is. Dinosaur inmho is a rip off of indy. Same layout instead of snakes and flames they have dinos and tress. If you eve close your eyes u say oh there goes the snake. Plus the emv's are just a car on a chasis with hydraulics. People have hydraulics on there car. So i take the 2 ton track switching and locking in 5 seconds.
Its not at all the same layout.......

Anyways, EE was pretty cool, I though. It pretty much was everything I though it would be. Not an outstanding coaster, but something more on the lines of Space Mountain, just slightly more intense, I think it pretty much hit that right on the mark. The front is cool because the backwards helix is slightly more intense, though the back is cool as well because you get some nice lift out of your seat on the signature drop. Though I didn't really get to see the animatronic because they were running it in B mode. (just a strobe light flashed twice onto the yetti) I have to say I was pretty dissappointed with that part. I wanted to it in all of its animatronicing splendor.

I haven't been on EE yet but it looks Awesome! I saw a show on the science channel about it and the attention to detail and technology is some of the best that I've seen the imagineers do.

I liked Expedition Everest. I didn't think it was Earth shattering by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly was enjoyable. As a roller coaster fan I can say that it honestly had me white knuckling it at some parts. I wasn't very impressed with the Yeti. I didn't see why there was such a fuss about it. I think the Abominible Snowman in the Matterhorn was scarier. Maybe it's the proximity. The Yeti just looked too big to be real. I was expecting to be really freaked out and ended up giggling.

**SPOILER**

The part with the projections was a lot creepier than the actual thing.

Now these are just my thoughts.

Yea I was pretty upset when we saw the yeti as well for 2 reasons.

A) the big reason is when I went we got mode B which is pretty much a strobe effect to hide the fact that the yeti isn't even moving.

B) i wasn't very impressed, I too like the Disneyland yeti better.

I know why WDW'ers want the comparison - because compared side-by-side, Everest wins. They don't stop for one moment to remember that Matterhorn's been there for 40 years before Everest came around. They just think "Ha! We got us a snowy mountain now & ours spits on yours! WDW superiority!" or something like that. They don't belong being compared together.

Everest is a welcome addition to the Disney mountain range, it's going to be a staple for years & years, it gives Animal Kingdom some good added legitimacy as an all-day park & that's all great. It's not a clone of Matterhorn by any stretch of the imagination. It's modern, it's unique, it's not based off a movie (), it's a great fit for where it's at, WDW folks can't ride it in Magic Kingdom like we can w/ Matterhorn, it's a great ride, I say leave it at that.

Not based on a movie, but based off a Disney Expedition . Disney Imagineers did go to Nepal and China to do research on Everest before they did anything with the actual ride I believe. They got all their inspiration from the beginning of the ride from a small Nepal city.

Thread has been moved to Disney's Animal Kingdom, merged with existing Everest thread & renamed for future discussion purposes.

I thought that the expedition was done so that they could gather local information on the mountain and so on, not that the ride was based on the expedition but that they went for the ride.

When riding Expedition Everest, of course you are probably going to be reminded of the Matterhorn sometime throughout either your wait for the ride or during the course of it's track. But, dont be confused. There are points that could be made to relate the two attraction together. But in the end, there are more differences then similarities.
One could say that the theming is to a greater length than that found in the Matterhorn. Another could say that 'what if they built the Matterhorn today, would it still be the same or would the details come out even more?'
There are really endless arguements that could be made to prove one attraction is superior to the other. I say that just remember both attractions give off completely different experiences. It's easier to decide which one you prefer better if you're riden both. But, i dont see why should such have to prefer one over the other since they really aren't the same thing. It's like saying I like Space Mountain Mission 2 over Mission: Space. They both go to Mars, dont they?

^^ Yeah thats what I meant...Oh and I just want to remind people as a side note, which really isn't THAT important, but Expedition Everest was never meant to be a recreation of Mt. Everest itself, but instead, a fictional Mountain, the Forbidden Mountain. But I want to say Mt. Everest IS supposed to be visible on Expedition Everest.

I love Everest, and Walt Disney World, I really do. However, it certainly isn't the best ride ever...maybe like #7 or #8 on my list for themed rides. If you truly want good rides, go to Cedar Point in Ohio. Most amazing park...EVER! And when you guys compare Disneyland and Walt Disney World, I just have to think of one thing that most all men do....
