Even though I've never been on it before, I was suspicious that the attraction doesn't have anything to do with the film.

However, from what I've read, I think The Indiana Jones Adventures and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye is better.

What is this attraction about?

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

You go on a time travel device back to rescue an iguanadon and bring it back before the "giant meteor" hits wiping out all the dinosaurs. In the process you get chased by a Carnataurus, a bit T-rex looking thing.

It was originally called Countdown to Extinction. When the movie Dinosaur came out, they tried to do a tie-in. They didn't really change the ride much, just changed the name.

I liked it. I thought it was fun. Though the setting was less realistic than Indy's, I liked it more. I dunno, but I thought the jungle vibe was cool. I love both rides though.

Dinosaur blew me away; some of the most fantastic animatronics ever! I couldn't believe how realistic they looked. And yes, this ride scares me every time; that's what I love most about it! The main similarity to Indy is in the kinds of vehicles; they are designed to simulate a vehicle bumping over rough terrain, stopping suddenly, etc. Overall, Dinosaur rocks, and does a great job of making you feel like you got suddenly plunged into prehistory. This is a close second to Expedition Everest.

I got a quick question although I will answer it myself in less than 3 weeks but I kinda need an Idea on it: how much more violent is the ride in terms of motion compared to Indiana Jones?

yes I know this is more of personal experience thing but my mom wants to know and she has a bad back but still goes on IJA even knowing that it does kill her back. she wants to go on it but yet she doesn't want to go on it if it's worse than Indiana Jones. any advice would be great.

I really miss the CTX version of the ride. It was much more violent, darker and louder. The "Dinosaur" interation is good, but the original was much more extreme.

That said, (of course I can't find it now), but I saw track comparisons between Indy and Dino/CTX and it follows the same layout. The section where the track crosses over itself is actually during the dark "Right-Left-Right-Left" section.

I haven't been on Indy, so I can't compare the car motion, but the track and ride system is identical.

Ride system yes, but track layout is a little different than Indy @ Disneyland.

Countdown to Extinction was awesome! I loved that ride! Then it became Dinosaur and I only went on it the first time.

The name change was one of the dumbest things Disney ever did. First of which they changed it to promote the name of a movie that flopped. Second of which if they really wanted to brand it under the Dinosaur name they should have called it Dinosaur: Countdown to Extinction. Sounds more exciting, Dose'nt it?

Here's a post on a different forum that has the track lay-outs for both attractions.

Well it looks exactly the same, except the turns are a bit smoother on one than the other. Ride dinosaur, put in you iPod and play the Indy ride soundtrack and close your eyes, and you'll know exactly where you are in Indy lol
