I love the maelstrom and I ride it every time I go to Epcot. Norway also has Akershus. mmm.

I rode it when I was like nine or ten and all I remember is I was afraid of the three headed troll and falling down a giant waterfall. I also remember the polar bears which were cool. :)

sure it is considerably small a short for a Disney ride.
I rode it recently and actually remember it being a bit longer when I was younger...

Am I imagining things or did they actually shorten it?

I think it depends if you watch the video after you get off the boat. I never have watched that movie for a few different reasons, and never really thought the ride was too short. It's probably the shortest ride at Epcot, but I've been on plenty shorter.

All in all, Norway is a decent land. I like the Maelstrom ride, although its ending is rather weak. The Akershus Royal Banquet Hall is a great place to eat and the shops are neat. I would definately rather spend time in Norway than in Italy, Mexico, Canada (Le Cellier excluded from that statement), or America. I have no real desire to visit America while in America (or Californina while in California).

I agree with OP. Maelstrom is an absolute joke of a ride, and Norway is a joke of a pavilion by association. It's probably the only Disney ride at either resort I'd consider flat-out bad.

I too think Norway is fine, just update the movie and you are good to go. Also folks need to realize that these pavilions are also financially responsible for updating not just Disney. They are also picky about what gets included in their pavilion.

I also agree that Italy and Mexico are disappointments...Italy needs an attraction and what's with the empty stage at the end of Mexico and the lame attraction? I actually do like the American Pavilion...I like the pre-show with the singers better than the actual show. Canada is just a feel good area and of course Le Cellier makes it.

I also always skip the movie. I wait with baited breath for the doors to open so I can run through before the exiting side doors close. Not really necessary, but part of the fun.
I also always quote "You are not the first to pass this way. Nor will you be the last" when the shiny eye mask guy talks, and I pretend like like the boat is going to fall out into the Pavilion square as the trolls cast their spell. I also raise my arms and yell "Whoa" when going down the waterfall. Every time. It's why I love the ride!

Malestrom was weird! I actually kinda find it amusing. The trolls....haha.
I think its pretty cool how it goes backwards. It was like a twisted dream...the whole thing was. Norway isn't that bad. I don't know...Malestrom throws me off cause of its weirdness.
