Default Just A Thought-Original Concept For Epcot

Has anyone seen or heard of the original plans for Epcot and WDW?
Epcot was originally supposed to be a city, a place where people could live and work while being exposed to futuristic ideas and innventions. There would be shops and theming from all over the world, and people would take a combination of monorails and people movers to get to their various jobs around the city. Cars would only need to be used for "Weekend Pleasure Trips". Everyone would have a job and no one would own there own homes. Walt died before the project was completed, and the project never went through.

What do you think? What would have happened if Walt had lived?
Would it have been completed? Was it a good idea or a nightmare? How would it have changed american history.

Post your thoughts.

I'm glad that the park itself was built, not this. He was trying to make a controlled futuristic city, yes. But, I don't really care for that. I'm glad we have this Epcot, right now. It gives everybody, not just some city's citizens, the ideas of the future and the cultures of the world.

In some ways isnt that kind of what Celebration is?? I know its not totally controlled but I was under the impression that its very self contained.

i think it would have been a little 'OVERLORD'-ish. everything controlled, you don't own your own home, it seems a little too surreal to me. but i love epcot now. i'm glad it's not a city.

Disney had great ideas, but the park is better.

1. It's impossible to have a futuristic city with the others the same. It's unfair.
2. The idea seems........................ dated now.

I think that Walt eventually would have found that a controlled futuristic city wouldn't be able to have actual people living in it and have it be a tourist attraction at the same time. The residents' lives would be completely on display. It reminds me of the movie "The Truman Show." It's about a guy that lives in this world under a dome and is constantly on TV, but he doesn't know it.

The original Epcot would make a nice movie, though. To show how advanced cities of the future could be. Maybe they could put that in Tomorrowland -Idea Spark!-

I was thinking more along the lines of A Brave New World. Everyone is happy in a futuristic society full of fun technology. (That's a really deceptive comment.) We observers could be the outsiders like the character John.
