Question WRE or POTC?

Which ride would have turned out better for the MK's flume ride : The Western River Expedition or WDW's Pirates of the Caribbean? I feel that this ride would have been a great alternative for WDW's POTC. The Pirates at WDW is OK, and if the angry guests didn't rush the park, POTC would have turned out a lot better.

Nah, I'm not really into the idea of WRE, but I do agree on the fact that if they took their time and opened POTC around the same time as Space Mountain, it could have turned out alot better.

POTC. WRE may have been good, but POTC is my 2nd fav DL ride. POTC in WDW is the same thing with Adventureland theme, since WDW has no New Orleans Square.

I think Western River Expedition would have been amazing! Pirates of the Caribbean is good, but considering it was rushed and half as long as the Disneyland version, I think WRE is the better fit. Especially neat would be that it'd be part of a large Thunder Mesa facade/building/complex, along with what would become Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and I think one other attraction that I can't remember.

That's kind of hard to pick because WRE doesn't exist. We can only compare POTC with concept art and ideas. After all the attachment people have with POTC, that one is sure to win this poll. Now, if we really wanted to put this poll to action, we could always ask Disney to build WRE and give the Magic Kingdom a much needed refresher. Just an idea.

Yeah, I had to go with pirates.
They is just so much they could have done.
Wasn't one of the problems with the WRE flume ride was that there was really no storyline...it was just you in the West on a river? I thought I had read that somewhere.

No, Western River Expedition was supposed to be very similar to Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride system would have been the same. The only major difference was WRE would have a cowboy and indian theme rather than the pirate theme of POTC. Imagineering didn't think Floridians would be as interested in pirates since they were so common in Florida. Instead, they though Floridians would prefer cowboys and indians since they are found in the midwest. When Floridians were heartbroken that the ever-popular POTC wasn't at the MK, Imagineering switched the plans for the soon-to-be constructed WRE with the off-the-shelf POTC plans.

Ok, I went back and found the quote relating to the WRE.
Card Walker liked the WRE and runaway mine train models. But, Tony Baxter said "I don't like it...It has no story, no theme. It's just a train rolling across a hillside. nothing more."
So, what I was referring to was actually the train ride portion of the expansion, not the flume ride. So, that was my fault. But when viewing the concept art, the flume ride looks equally as boring.

Another reason though for the downfall in popularity of the WRE was that the characters being deplicted were far too politically incorrect. Imagine if they had gone ahead with the expansion...they would be paying for it now with the potential law suits and the large sum of money they would need to correct the many 'mistakes.' Then again, theres the 'DCA fix' already in progress.

The fact that I voted for pirates is not mainly because of anything from above, but because of what the current WDW version is like. I am not stating it is terrbile, I am simply saying that when looking at the original, the WDW version falls into the DL's version shadow.
WDW's Frontierland in theory received WRE, no not it its intended glory, but more of in a round-about approach. WRE was to include a mine train ride and a flume ride. There is now BTMR, which was developed from the WRE project and there is now Splash Mountain, a log flume ride.
