(Why is the site purple?) A really random question but...

(Okay, if this has been answered before somewhere, or if this isn't the right spot, feel free to lock/move/direct me to where the answer is, because I looked through all the threads in this forum and the Announcements/Site Feedback forum and couldn't find the answer.)

Why is the site purple? I have absolutely nothing against it -- in fact, I think it's very unique and makes VF stand out, but why purple? Why were these particular colors chosen? I was wondering about it today. I'm just curious. :)

A very long time ago, the site wasn't purple. When purple came, it was met with much positive. Then it went away for a short bit, and people immediately starting asking where the purple went. So, the purple was brought back and has been here ever since.

The origins of the purple go back to when VF was first starting and we were using a different software, PHPBB. Most of the included skins were pretty ugly and nothing fit the dark blue palette of the previous site. I found one, it was called "Quidditch" (i.e. Harry Potter). The background was a dark purple with gold text. When we switched software, we kept the same colors.

I never thought of this myself but now we know! The site fits the purple color.

I actually have always wondered this too. I just never wondered hard enough to make a thread about it. And yes, PMM's story was wonderful. He should write a book about purple.
