Default McDonald's is leaving Disneyland Resort

McDonald's is leaving Disneyland Resort

Disneyland to McDonald’s: Get out

Orange County Register
Officials at both Disneyland and McDonald’s have confirmed with the Orange County Register a recent story posted on MiceAge, a Disneyland chat forum: McDonald’s is history after Labor Day. “As part of a planned refurbishment, three McDonald’s-branded quick service restaurants in Disneyland Resort — Burger Invasion, Conestoga Fries and Harbour Galley — will close on September 2,” Betsy Sanchez, a theme park spokeswoman, said in an email statement. Sanchez did not say why McDonald’s was getting the ax.

McDonald’s seemed a bit disappointed by the news when I asked the chain to confirm its soon-to-be departure from the Anaheim theme parks. Yes, McDonald’s is leaving because of the remodel, said spokeswoman Danya Proud. But Proud said the closures had nothing to do with a report released Monday that said fast-food chains such as McDonald’s were failing to serve children healthy meals.

I'm happy to hear McDonald's leaving DLR... Been waiting for this to happen for a long time.

seriously! We always commented on how that brought the outside world in. McD's shouldn't have been there in the first place! Yay!

Ah man, I'm going to miss getting fries in Frontierland. My family usually gets McDonald's at DCA for a light snack. But I guess it's for the best. Wonder what's going to take their place...

I have always liked having the fries right after getting off Big Thunder.
But they don't have to be McDonalds friends, they honestly could be anything.

I thought this had been rumored a few months ago. Didn't they say about a year ago that they were removing all fast food out of the parks?

I so agree with you. It always felt weird to me to walk by the Harbour Galley and see that McDonald's Fries sign.

Hmm... I'm just wondering what's going to happen to the Westward Ho wagon and the Harbour Gallery sign. I hope they don't leave them alone, I hope that they do SOMETHING to cover up the Mickey-D signs ASAP. if they close in September, I'm hoping there won't be a trace of them when I go in November.

I hope they sell SOMETHING at the Westward Ho wagon. Like many have said, I enjoyed getting hot fries after a trip through Big Thunder. Hopefully some higher-quality eats will show up!

I didn't know there was a McDonald's there. I must either be blind or I just wasn't that hungry.

McDonald's retreats all the way back to their establishment on Harbor Blvd. Oh well.

Exclamation Why McDonalds fries are sooooo tasty!

McDonald's has always had a reputation for delicious french fries, but never healthy french fries. What used to make their fries so tasty was the kettle of beef tallow they were cooked in. In 1990, while discussing the benefit of cooking with lard (), Julia Child raved about McDonald's fries on her TV show.

Once that story broke, McD's switched to a secret process. They won't say what their fries are coated with to give them that animal-fat goodness; but in the interest of allergy discosure, they've listed wheat gluten, peanuts, and dry milkfat solids so they're not exactly vegan (). They've also admitted that their fries are much higher in trans-fats than they'd previosly claimed.

Meanwhile, over at Disney... In October of 2006, Disney publically committed to eliminating trans-fats from all food served at their theme parks within two years. That deadline is swiftly approaching, and the last holdout is McDonald's. So McD's only real choice was to either change their product, and fast; or leave.

With all the recent talk about fast food and health concerns, I'd say it's time for McDonald's to change their formula again.
