Imagineer Harriet Burns dies

Harriet Burns, Disney Legend and Imagineer, has died at age 79

Harriet Burns, Disney Legend and Imagineer has died at age 79. Burns was the first woman ever hired by Walt Disney Imagineering in a creative rather than an office capacity. Her role as an attraction and product designer for Walt Disney Imagineering laid a path for the many talented women who followed in her footsteps.

Burns helped design Sleeping Beauty Castle, New Orleans Square, the Haunted Mansion, and more. She also designed all of the “singing birds” in the Enchanted Tiki Room, the first Audio-Animatronics attraction at Disneyland and played a key role in the 1964 World’s Fair attractions.

Harriet Burns was a woman that won't seen be forgotten. Her influence is still seen in the park, and will act as a living testament of her hard work, dedication, and incredible imagination. She was a spectacular woman, and I pray that her family and friends will find peace in these hard times. God bless them.

Awww....

I've always kind of looked up to Harriet Burns as one of the very few women who worked at Imagineering in the early days of the park. I'm sure that throughout the Disney companny she will be missed.

That's sad. I guess she's really a huge part of Disney, she should get a commemorative plaque for having been one of THE best imagineers @ WDI

You know, it wasn't until I rewatched my Walt Disney biography and saw Harriet that I actually knew that she was the one who put the hair on the pirates legs. It is so said to see the old company die along with its members. She will be sorely missed.
