Unhappy bureaucracy

That seems to be the pattern for dealings with China. Aparently there are many levels of bureaucracy to work your way through.

Default Hong Kong lawmakers approve Disney expansion

Hong Kong lawmakers approve Disney expansion

Hong Kong lawmakers approve Disney expansion

Forbes
Hong Kong lawmakers have approved a government plan to expand the city's Disneyland at a cost of about $465 million. The late Friday approval came after the Walt Disney Co. ( DIS - news - people ) and the Hong Kong government agreed to expand their joint venture, Hong Kong Disneyland, two weeks ago after two years of negotiation.

The proposed expansion will add three more theme areas and 30 more new attractions, enlarging the park by nearly a quarter over the next five years.

Under the deal, the Burbank, California-based entertainment giant will put up all the new capital to cover the construction and operation costs during the building phases. Hong Kong will convert a large portion of the loan it provided to Disney for the construction of the original park, to buy more shares in the venture. The territory's total stake is expected to be diluted by Disney's new expansion capital, from about 57 percent to 52 percent.

In a joint statement applauding the lawmakers' approval, financial secretary John Tsang said the expansion would help attract more family visitors from around the world. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Jay Rasulo said the company is "eager to begin work" on the expansion.

Grizzly Gulch, here I come! Will they add attractions to the lands already in place?

As long as they open Snow White, Pinocchio & Peter Pan attractions I shall be happy. I'm still not sold on Toy Story Land though seems more like a Disney's California Adventure or a Disney's Hollywood Studios land.

30 new attractions? Wow. So it's officially a green-light to go?

I hope those 30 are not just for the new lands being added. I hope they at least add a Peter Pan ride to Fantasyland, if not Snow White and Pinocchio rides, too. It should definitely be the DL version, except dubbed in Cantonese (like how DLP's ride is identical to DL, save for being dubbed in French).

Maybe they'll come up with an advanced version of Peter Pan like they did for Pooh at Tokyo but I highly doubt that, if they went through this much trouble just to get expansion green lit they'd probably have to go through a lot more trouble just to get a green light for an advanced new dark ride.

Some of the room they had for expansion in Fantasyland was taken up by the entrance of Toy Story Land. If they wanted to put in Peter Pan's Flight, Pinocchio's Daring Journey, or Snow White's Scary Adventures they would have to rip out a restaurant which is the only restaurant in Fantasyland and have to build over Fantasy Gardens.

Well, that Fantasy Gardens bit looked like just filler anyway and can and should be put to better use at a later time.

Just looking at a map there's also a bit of land next to the Fantasyland train station, but I think that's going to the Toy Story Land entrance. Some of the 30 attractions must be going to the lands already established, Grizzly Gulch only has like one ride, Mystic Point looks like it has two, and Toy Story Land has like four or five. So that only makes about ten new attractions. That's twenty to be added elsewhere. I'm sure there will be more attractions in the expansion lands and the old ones.

I'm glad that there's going to be an expansion. That park desperately needs it. I really hope to go.

I am very excited about the changes now, all three of them look pretty promising. Take a look at the bottom left hand corner of the Grizzly Trail poster. The train is going on the wrong track as a clumsy bear has backed into a track switch and caused them to go the wrong way. Grizzly Peak or whatever they're going to call it is what I'm really excited about here.

Sorry for the double post but I just noticed in the Mystic Point poster there is a monkey pinned to the wall by poison darts shot at him by some tiki masks across the way on the corresponding wall.

I really love the first two posters. They look very promising with those two major attractions.
