Default Disney bails out HKDL

Disney Co. bails out Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland firms up finances to boost expansion

AFP
Hong Kong Disneyland has switched its hefty commercial loans to its US parent company, a spokesman said Wednesday, bringing the theme park a step closer to much-needed expansion.

The park, which recently celebrated its third anniversary in the southern Chinese city, has switched 3.3 billion Hong Kong dollars (423 million US) of loans and credit with banks to the Walt Disney Company, the spokesman said. "We can now focus on the further development of the park and more expansion," the spokesman told AFP.

New Hong Kong Disneyland chief executive Andrew Kam said last month that expanding the park was a priority, as it aims to lure more visitors.

That park really needs expansion. It is great because when I went, i rode on everything before 2 pm, and i arrived an one to 3 hours after it opened that day.

Default Hong Kong Disneyland expansion

Hong Kong Disneyland expansion

Hong Kong Disneyland to expand
Timetable, financing still unclear

Variety
Talks are underway to significantly expand the struggling Hong Kong Disneyland theme park. But a timetable and financing are unclear.
According to the South China Morning Post the Hong Kong government and Disney are now discussing addition of three new themed 'lands' at a cost of some HK$5 billion ($645 million).

A spokesman for Hong Kong Disney Resorts, holding company for Hong Kong Disneyland, declined to comment, saying that these were "negotiations between two private shareholders."

From what I've heard, any change will be well received. I assume DHK is really something not-too-spectacular, so any addition that will bring it up to the ranks of all other Disney parks is OK by me! Not that my approval has any weight, but you know...

Watching Extinct Attractions' video travelogue of HKD,which was shot not too long ago, was enough to convince me that their current economic woes really should come as no surprise----there's HARDLY ANYTHING in that park!

{I was starting to have a "Boardwalk And Baseball" flashback!}

If they're gonna save that park, they better do it quickly.

Why they ever decided to make it small with hardly anything to begin with is beyond me. I guess they didn't plan it out well enough.

It needs the expansion, it's really inferior compared to the other parks. I hope that during this expansion though, Disney could create completly new attractions not seen anywhere else to give the park some reason to exist.

Default Disney makes official offer

Disney makes official offer to expand Hong Kong Disneyland

Disney makes offer to Hong Kong park
Studio promises funds for struggling Disneyland

Variety
Disney is offering to fund expansion at the money-losing Hong Kong Disneyland theme park. But plans to develop the site have yet to be approved by Hong Kong's government, which is the park's majority owner, and it may demand changes in the shareholding structure.

The Mouse House's commitment was made clear Monday in a submission to Legco, the territory's equivalent of a parliament, by HKDL managing director Andrew Kam Min-ho. The funding offer is separate from the HK$3.26 billion ($420 million) that Disney loaned the park to repay commercial loans that were due in September to 26 banks.

Well, I very much think HKDL needs a Tower of Terror of its own, so maybe we'll see another expansion to the Hollywood Tower Hotel Franchise?

Personally, I feel they should make something unique for that park that other Disneyland parks do not have. That would help entice more people there. Of course there is the thought that maybe building one there might have been a bad idea to begin with. We'll see though if their government OK's the expansion.
