Default DL Christmas TV taping secret

Disneyland Christmas TV taping dates kept secret

Disney keeps mum about Christmas TV taping

Orange County Register
Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers have performed in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, Ryan Seacrest has served as host and local dancers have joined parades at Disneyland for previous tapings of Christmas TV specials. But Disneyland officials won’t tell guests about the filming ahead of time.

In fact, they won’t confirm when the taping is scheduled, only saying it will happen over the next few weeks, to avoid “guest dissatisfaction,” said George Savvas, a Disneyland Resort spokesman. The way Disney sees it, the taping is an annoyance for visitors. Views are obstructed. Crowds form. The schedule constantly changes. And there’s no guarantee of a celebrity sighting.

Disney won’t say which stars — if any — will participate in this year’s event. “We don’t want to disappoint our Disneyland guests,” Savvas said. “We do not encourage people to show up for (those days) specifically to see that taping occur.”

Awwww, but I want to know!!!!!!!!!! I understand how they'd want to avoid the whole, "But they said!!!" thing, but what if you just have a day to kill and want to go just for that? Or what if you want to avoid the whole thing and don't want to go on that day? Shouldn't they atleast hint which week?

I guess it makes sense. They don't want all the crowds in the way and all. Oh well, we can't change their minds. All we can do is either be satisfied with what we see Christmas Day in the parade or not be happy with it at all.

I think that's a pretty smart idea. Nothing's worse than a worked-up crowd expecting to see a celebrity or try to have their face planted in the taping. Too much crowd problems that could occur.

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

Yep....worked there a few years back whilst working "guest control" and the hardest thing about location filming is having to say "sorry folks, but could you step back a few while I move this boom arm?" Hardest thing in the world to try to shoot a scene with hundreds of gawkers/people getting in the way...

We accidentally showed up a couple years ago when they did Miley's float, and Ryan was in front of the castle. Holy CRAP! That was absolute chaos. I would want to know so that I WASN'T there on those days haha!

There's nothing more horrible than seeing Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana in Disneyland Resort. It'd ruin my day... unless I manage to do a huge prank on her and not get caught. >:-)

Speaking of her, I was calling in about the Disney College Program, and while on hold, had to listen to her sing for 15 minutes. I was not pleased.

One day they'll learn how to hold a special AP drawing during the summer, and do the filming before the park opens to the general public with the lucky winners as the screaming crowds lining Main Street.

Have the drawing over the summer. Pick either the first or second Wednesday in November to have the opening time for Disneyland moved to 11am for the public, and be 6am for the drawing winners. That gives enough time for the crowd to arrive and line the route, and the parade & filming to happen. Once it's done, open the park to the public at 11am. Problem solved.

Crowds are actually relatively easy to deal with while doing location shooting, as long as the entire crowd there intends to be there to see what & who are being filmed.

I don't believe that I have ever been to Disneyland during such an event. But if ever am, I would just take it as my luck to be there. I'm sure I would be excited to see most of what was going, but I think I would be more into the process of how a production like this happens. Or watching guests and how they react would be fun(ny) too! Sure I would be excited, but not enough to get in the way.

For the majority of the park, this is absolutly true. It's just main street that gets packed! and LOUD!

The date has been confirmed, last minute, but when I stopped by today, I got all excited when I saw the stage setup, but read the sign and says taping is on Nov 8th.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, Selena Gomez recorded her bit yesterday Nov. 7th:

Selena Gomez Tapes the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade

If you'd hung around that stage, maybe you could have seen her.

I wonder if the sign was there specifically to throw people off. I'm sure the want a crowd durring taping, but not hanging around during set-up and break-down.
