Default Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' remake

Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' remake

Robert Zemeckis Has Reached Out To Paul McCartney And Ringo Starr To Star In New 'Yellow Submarine'

Mtv Movies
For all his embrace of whiz-bang moviemaking technology, Robert Zemeckis remains loyal to his roots: once a Beatlemaniac, always a Beatlemaniac. More than three decades after his directorial debut, the Fab Four-obsessed comedy I Wanna Hold Your Hand, the man is returning to the same musical territory with a 3-D performance-capture adaptation of the classic cartoon movie, 'Yellow Submarine'.

Zemeckis wants Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to return to that trippy, underwater territory as well, MTV News has exclusively learned. "We haven't gotten the word yet on the two surviving Beatles, whether they're interested in doing it or not," the director said during an interview with our own Josh Horowitz.

Simply put, that's a wacky – and, obviously, amazing! – idea. Even if we're not entirely sure what he means. Does he intend to have Paul and Ringo don those skintight mo-cap body suits and dance around a green screen? Or is the concept to have other actors portray the musicians, while the remaining Beatles provide their voices? And where in all of this would John Lennon and George Harrison fit?

All we know now is that Paul and Ringo are Zemeckis' first choices. "Of course it would be," he said.

The funny thing is that in the 1968 cartoon original, other actors provided the Beatles voices, with the boys from Liverpool only showing up at the end.

Cool courtesy cameo

It's probably just a courtesy to offer a cameo to them. I can't imagine Paul McCartney being in any way interested.

Given Zemeckis' recent forays into animation,I'm assuming this will be CGI,which raises the question---in this film, will the Beatles be CGI versions of the real guys,or three-dimensional versions of the Peter Max-inspired originals?

Post Beatles, he's gone from rock star (Band On The Run) to pop icon (Silly Love Songs) to serious composer (Standing Stones). He's carved his own path and never once during his long, sucessful career relied upon Beatles nostalgia.

Ringo Starr is another story. "Remember Me? I used to be a Beatle!"

I have to agree with Ezra about Paul. He just doesn't seem to really care about going back and reliving those days or doing anything else much Beatles related outside of selling the albums and regaining the music library rights.

I understand now. Thanks for explaining it to me. However, we'll see what happens.

I think that they would be very interested in doing this project in one way or another. They worked with the developers in making the Beatles Rock Band and even appeared at the E3 convention to promote it.

well i know that paul, ringo, and yoko all collaborated with eachother and the guys at cirque du soleil to make the Love show. which, by the way, was amazing. so maybe he'll take the bait on this one. I understand what you're saying though.
