Gosh, I'd love to do this once in my lifetime. Everything I've seen on the Adventures by Disney tours just looks incredible.

It's so weird... I was looking at their site the other day for Italian tours, since my girlfriend wants to go there and I haven't the foggiest clue what to see besides museums in Rome. The tour looked good, but then I peeked around some more and looked at the tour of Glacier and Banff, which is basically the area I live in. Honestly, that tour doesn't look worthwhile at all relative to what one could see here. So now I'm wondering...

all that stuff that you live near and are used to though... would those of us who AREN'T near it still want to see it?

I didn't say that my area isn't worth visiting... I certainly think it is. Heck, I think it's worth living in for crying out loud!

What I meant is that there are a lot more interesting things one could do here than what Disney has scheduled on their trip. Some of the things are nice, but off the top of my head I can think of a half-dozen better activities, restaurants and hotels than most of the ones they have there... Which sights to see, which museums to visit, which places to have high tea, which parks to stroll in, etc.

That's what makes me wonder about going elsewhere with them. The Italian tour looks interesting, with the Venetian mask-making and things like that. But I admit I know squat about Italy because it's not a place I'd go on my own. I wonder what a local would say about the itinerary and what they would recommend seeing.

Hmm... I would hesitate with asking the locals.

I refer to a past experience---
My father and mother went to Hawaii just this past year. They did all they could on their island, such as Pearl Harbor, Pineapple Plantation, PCC, etc. Well, seeing as they don't know the area, and didn't want to eat at McDonald's, they asked locals about where to eat. As you know, Hawaiian folk are very kind and helpful people, so a man told them of an "authentic" Hawaiian restaurant. They went, and suffered through an incredibly enormous buffet (the hostesses insisted that you keep eating) with food that really didn't taste that good, or didn't taste at all! Not the highlight of their Hawaiian culinary experience. I'm assuming the man they asked was more of a "quantity of quality" type of guy !

I know that this isn't always the case, but it makes me hesitant to ask natives. Especially with foreign cultures.

But I can counter myself with an experience I had in San Fransisco with my dad. We asked a local where a good place to eat is (relatively cheap) and we were amazed by the food.

So its a toss-up!
