Sheesh, being a tad rough there DaddyB.
I wouldn't travel to Hong Kong just to visit Disneyland, but if I were there anyway, why not? Most likely not going to happen though. It'd be interesting to visit a Disneyland other than the one in California. But then on the other hand, it looks like Hong Kong Disneyland has few notable rides, so even if I had the chance, I probably wouldn't go. Just wouldn't be the same. Needs time to grow. |

If I was there, maybe I'd venture in. otherwise, I probably won't make it a life-long goal.
Personally, I think building HK DL was a waste of funds. They could have used the money for more important things (like putting together a decent 50th Anniversary plan together for the official opening of DL). But that's just me.

For some reason they want to ever-expand the company. Didn't they learn anything from the Romans? The Asian market is a huge "growth opportunity" (business-talk for "there's a buttload of people who'd collectively wet themselves over the opportunity to buy our stuff") and it's too lucrative to pass up. However, Disney's doing it in typical modern Disney fashion. Try to maximize return with as little investment as possible. Hong Kong business folk have to be able to see this if I can & I can't believe they're happy about it. What's in that park to attract me to it other than the "Disneyland" name? Hmmm...? For Hong Kong people, that might be enough right now, but even they will become jaded by it and faster then you might think. No amount of one-attraction per year expansion, if they even do that, is going to help there. Then there's the whole, we built this is in a communist country & it's ultimately supporting & perpetuating their government, thing.

^ Ditto. I'll go to TDL much faster than I would HKDL.

My lifetime goal is to visit every Disney park all over the world. Chances of success: 100% Age I'll be when goal is reached: don't know! :) But I'll give it my best shot!

I don't know how Hong Kong Disneyland operates, but I know that in Tokyo Disneyland they have foreigners doing the princesses and other non-asian characters like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and stuff. That way you feel more like you're meeting the real characters.

-Back when Disneyland, CA first opened, it didn't have that many rides, that Matterhorn wasn't even built back then. -Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom was the only theme park for 11 years. It was based on Disneyland in CA, and it was still attracting the same people that it has been attracting in CA. -Epcot was belittled when it first opened for its lack of thrill rides and its "adult-oriented" education theme. -The Disney-MGM Studios only had two rides back then and the Animal Kingdom didn't have any thrill rides like Epcot. -I don't know if Tokyo Disneyland has any problems, but I know for a fact that Disneyland Paris was a real stink bomb when it opened. It wouldn't have closed if it wasn't for Space Mountain. Who knows? Maybe, 10 years from now, HKDL will expand to become one of China's best parks. I'll be there when that happens! |

Exactly, there'd be much more motivation 10 years from now to go HKDL than there is today.

I guess I would go to Hong Kong Disneyland but definitely not for the park itself. If I ever visit, it would be because I just happened to be touring Hong Kong. It's not even a decent resort yet compared to the other Disney destinations with two parks. In fact, I highly doubt it's even a full day park like the other Magic Kingdoms. I would much rather go to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
