Lightbulb Taking the train to Disneyland

The last two trips to Disneyland I took the train because I got tired of the traffic, and I get just plain tired when I drive long distances. 97.9 miles is too close to fly so I thought "Amtrak?!". It has literally taken 3-4 hours to drive to the park because of the traffic. I read an article that at one time there was some major marketing to get people to ride the train to the park.

To tell you the truth, I would probably take a train on my next visit to Disneyland. Driving is too long and has lots of traffic and taking a plane is too short a distance.

Funny story about taking the train one time.....
A friend and I took a trip from Sacramento to Anaheim for our vacation at the Disneyland Resort. We took the coastal route through San Francisco, Santa Barbara, etc. It was an INCREDIBLY fun trip.
Funny part is that it took us between 12 and 13 hours to ride the train from Sacramento to Anaheim when we could have driven it in six or seven.
But if you like the train and make that PART of your vacation, it's great. Got to catch up on a lot of reading on the trip. It was great!

I take the metro for lack of a car... the Metro takes forever.

The train seems nice though.

Just wondering, how can a train ride take longer than a car ride? I would be thinking that a train ride is faster than driving a car.

They make stops at other train depots to pick up other passengers--that can cause delays.

Well from San Diego it certainly can! I would say if you're between 60 and 200 miles a train ride is faster especially if you're traveling down the coast. If you're along the California Coast and between Santa Barbara and Ventura or In San Diego County or in Palm Springs then you better believe a train ride will save you time. \

I know from experience that driving from San Diego to Disneyland could take 3 or 4 hours because of traffic. A train ride is 2 hours from station to station (not including the time it takes you to get to the San Diego station). A train ride from Sacramento is pushing it; personally I'd rather ride an airplane.

Not to mention a train ride saves wear and tear on yourself. Whenever I drive long distances I get tired. I was just in Mission Valley today and I rode the San Diego Trolley and it took an hour and would have taken me 20 minutes by car. I'm glad I did it! What's the hurry, it's a Slappy Hour! The parking lot in this place is notoriously bad.

That was a long trip some of the scenery was aw some .

I took the train from Martinez to Reno. Driving that would take about 3 hours. On the train it took about 6 hours. Granted, you do go over the sierras to get there. The trip there was nice and had beautiful scenery to look at, but the way home was awful! I just wanted to get home, and it seemed like it took forever! Overall though, it was a great experience.

On a side note, while waiting to get into DL on July 17th, I met a family from Martinez that had taken the train to the DLR. I thought that was pretty cool to run into a family from my home town in a sea of thousands of people waiting to get inot DL!

Well San Diego is just the right distance where it's too far to drive but too close to fly, so the train is my favorite option

I've always thought about taking a train to DLR, but I never knew there was a train station nearby. I know we cross some train tracks going on Ball Road (I've seen both Amtrack and Metrolink), but I don't know where those drop off at.

Both Metrolink and Amtrak™ stop at Anaheim Stadium. You have to walk across the parking lot to the entrance to the parking lot, where there is a building there called "the grove". Cross Katella then to the bus stop at Katella & State College. In all, it's a 10 minute walk to the bus stop. Take bus line 50 westbound to Katella and harbor it's only a 5 minute bus ride

Train is a little faster than car from San Diego during high traffic. I like train rides anywhere. It is really fun. A little off topic, if you want to take a bus, it is cheaper than car. However, car is much faster than bus during any kind of traffic. Bottom line, don't take a bus if you want to get there quick. Take the train.

Yeah, for me it started in Sacramento (coastal route--specific route name escapes me) went into Emeryville (home of Pixar!) then to Oakland then some other stop, then stopped in Santa Barbara, then several more stops in Los Angeles until finally reaching Angels Stadium depot.
There the hotel shuttle from the hotel we stayed at picked us up and took us back. That was 1995, two weeks after Indy opened.

If I lived in Northern California, train would take too long I think I would fly at that point. As I said, San Diego is just the distance where it's too close to fly but too far to drive.
