Default new year's trip

ok. i'm in the process of planning a surprise birthday/christmas trip for my husband (who's turning 25). we're gonna try to be there from 12/29 to 1/2. neither of us have been to disneyland on new year's or for the holidays.

does anyone know what's going to be going on during this time period? or what usually goes on? i'm clueless and i want to make this trip really special for my husband...

Heres the Park hours for New Years Eve for DL and DCA.

Disneyland Park: 8AM-2AM
Disney's California Adventure: 10AM-1AM

Once you've entered Disneyland, do not leave the park as it can hit capacity. It might rain like it did last year so bring an Umbrella or raincoat. If you don't, There are several locations to buy them. Fastpasses will become an issue. Heres a list of the Fastpass Attractions you should make a first.

1.Indiana Jones Adventure
2.Space Mountain
3.Splash Mountain
4.Haunted Mansion Holiday

The rest you might not have to worry about. Remember that Disneyland Resort Hotel guest can reenter the park even with capacity. The attractions listed above can hit anywhere from 60 min-120 min (For example Indiana Jones hit 120 min at 3 PM last year). Keep in mind that some attractions might have a long wait 5 min before park closing (For example Indiana Jones had a 60 min wait 5 min before closing.). Heres the big entertainment list.

A Christmas Fantasy Parade: See time guide (If cancelled then an alternate parade will take it's place.)
Believe In Holiday Magic: 9:25 PM
Fantasmic!: 9:00 PM, 10:30 PM, 12:10 AM
Billy Hill and The Hillbillies: See times guide
New Years Eve Fireworks (AKA Fantasy In The Sky): Midnight
Aladdin A Musical Spectacular (At Disney's California Adventure): 12:20 PM, 1:50 PM, 4:05 PM, 6:00 PM (The times here is when the doors will close, show will begin 5 minuts later)
Disney's Electrical Parade: 8:45 PM
New Years Eve Countdown: 10PM-12AM (Both Parks)

Hope this helps.
