Default New Year's Eve at Disneyland

We are planning on being at DL on the 31st and the 1st. We have never been to the park for New Year's before, and I was wondering what special events they have. I know there's a countdown at midnight and fireworks, but is there anything else? Special events, meals at the restaurants, character meet and greets? For those of you who have been on new Year's in the past, do you have any specific suggestions for us?

Thanks!

There are all kinds of things. I have the park guide from New Years Last Year I will scan it in and post it. I am sure they will have things similar.

It was alot of fun for sure!

The only thing I have heard is that it is so crowded you can hardly move.

I've gone the past two years, but unfortunately will not make it there this year. I would suggest you arrive as early as possible. Also, when you get into the park they may not have the (new year themed) guides/maps available depending on how early you get there, but stop by the entrance later on in the day and pick up your "Happy New Year" map/guide. The new year designs are always so cute and it's a wonderful free souvenir. If you plan on watching the fireworks/countdown in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle expect for someone in your party to hold your spot a few hours in advance. If you have any questions ask a cast member where the best spot is for you to claim. Two years ago it was raining like crazy, so I would check the weather report and if there's even the slightest chance of rain I'd suggest each person bring a small umbrella or poncho, so you can save yourself a few dollars by not buying those items in the park. Also, make sure you bring a nice warm jacket because even though it's so. cal it can get a little chilly around midnight. Once the sun goes down and it gets closer to midnight there are designated places in the park where you can get "Happy New Year" plastic top hats for free (at least that's what happened the past two years). Once again, just ask a cast member and they'll kindly direct you to where you can get your own hat. As far as special events go I guess it just depends from year to year but here is what the inside flap of my guide from last year says...

"We're Celebrating the New Year from Park to Park!
Disneyland
New Year's Eve Countdown Central-Sleeping Beauty Castle-10pm-12:00am
Celebrate The Year of a Million Dreams through comedy, adventure and song as we count down to 2007 at the heart of Disneyland Park.

Live High-Energy Cajun Music
Rivers of America-8:00, 9:45, 11:00, 11:45pm
Between performances of Fantasmic!, Lisa Haley and teh Zydekats rock the Rivers of America and count down to the New Year!

"it's a small world" Promenade Dance Party
"it's a small world" Promenade-7:00-2:00am
Join in the fun with our comic host, DJ and some of your favorite Disney Characters for party fun and dancing to Top 40 and Radio Disney hits!

Tomorrowland Terrace Dance Party
Plaza Gardens Stage-7:30, 8:45, 12:15am
High-flying, eight-to-the-bar swing from Doc Anello & the Swing Machine--the biggest little band in the land.

New Year's Eve "Fantasy in the Sky" Fireworks Show
Skies above Disneyland Park-12:00am
Don't miss the countdown to 2007 and our largest pyrotechnic show of the year precisely at midnight."

Have a wonderful time. I'm really bummed that I wont be there this year. I mean come on can you imagine any better way to welcome the new year than with the people you love at "the happiest place on earth?"

Thanks guys! We are so excited about this - we have been at Disneyland for most holidays, but never New Year's. I'm waiting anxiously for the scan, MC. I just can't wait!!!

That's great - thanks!

I'm definitely wanting to do some swing dancing in the new year, but I'll have to see if I can convince my hubby! :)
