Unhappy I dont wanna miss the celebration!

ok, i have a problem. my parents want to go to disneyland in early december, but by then the 50th celebration is over. and i really dont want to miss it. so im trying to convince them to go earlier, around october, even though im starting high school next year. the only way i can convince them is if i find a time around then that is not so crowded in DL. does anybody know if its crowded there around late september, early october?also is it crowded before the 28th of october? because we cannot go during halloween since my mom is completely obsessed w/ halloween and has to decorate our house. also hundreds of trick or treaters come by, so it would be rude if we ditched them for disneyland. please help me!

even late august/early september isnt very busy. most california students I think are back in school, DL is open for the full 16 hours, and very little rides are closed. my family always goes during that time and it has never been that bad.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to go to the 50th because I'm from Australia. Is there gold everywhere? What are the major differences in the 50th celebration?

September is alwas a good time to go! Most of the Districts (LAUSD,TUSD etc) will call their students in to discuss what will happen like sign ups for clubs and stuff. On a futher note August -September is when the kids are school supply shopping. Take advantage of that.

We went the week after labor day last year (Sept 9th). It was the least crowded I have ever seen the park.

Disneyroxxx, I believe the celebration ends July 17, so you need to go probably before July (when people are trying to get the last bit of the celebration before it goes bye-bye.

Default 18 month long celebration

Disney reps have been saying the phrase 18-month-long Celebration so much, I don't understand why anyone thinks it ends July 17. ...18 months from May 5th 2005 brings us to the begining of November.

Huh... I read off Disneyland.com before the 50th celebration started that it would end on 7/17/06. Don't ask why... maybe they changed their minds, or something.

Default kick-off

At the Celebration kick-off event in May, Bob Iger said 18-month about 5 times I think...

They said it on in the July one too.

That better be right, too.
I made my plans for August because they said that.

Hi, Emma - Glad to hear you might make it in the fall.

No, it's not all gold. I think it's been very tastefully done. First, the traditional flower Mickey face that greets you in the Admission area has been redone in gold and blue and there is a statue of Mickey done all in flowers standing next to his silhouette. That's new.

Going up Main Street are 13 gold lamp standards with gold decorating the traditional gaslights. At the top of each one, a gold Tinkerbell spreads gold pixie dust. Each of these has a gold planter full of flowers that change with the season, and each has a Mickey 50 icon in it.

In fact, I think the icons are the most fun of the celebration. There are fifty of these things all over the park. It's like a scavenger hunt and it's really fun to try and spot them. Some are really big, some are really little and some are in disguise.

The centerpiece of the decorations is the castle, of course. Each tower now has a huge golden crown on it. At first I thought each crown represented a princess, but they're really more symbolic than that. Somewhere on the web (maybe even here at VF) is an article that tells what they symbolize. Also on the castle are lots of banners hanging down so it's really elegant.

Lastly, they've added some "decoration" to all of the original rides left from 1955. Each has its own special plaque declaring it an "Original." Some of them - like Dumbo, the teacups, the Storybook Canal Boats, the Carousel - have replaced one of the things you ride in or on with a golden one (so there's a golden Dumbo, a golden teacup and so on.)

The best "decoration," though, it that the park is all cleaned up and full of flowers and just looks fabulous!

Fall is a perfect time to come. It won't be so crowded. Have a great time!

Arrow 5 crowns

There's a crown for each decade:
  • The first crown is a pair of mickey ears coming over the horizon
  • The second crown is a rocket ship, for the completely redesigned Tomorrowland of 1967 (my current user page is all about that)
  • The third crown is the Blue Fairy, a salute to Main St. Electrical Parade
  • The fourth crown is has snakes and eyes, for Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
  • The fifth crown is Tinker Bell and fireworks, saluting Tink's new arial ballet that she does over the castle now. (it used to be just a simple zip-line, she flew down and that was that, now she flitters around.)
