Hey watch out if you're going in January as they hold some zany Music Convention for the last two weeks. Everywhere, and I mean everywhere regardless of price is booked out and prices double purely for this music convention. What also sucks is both weekends Disneyland is packed like Summer so its 1 2 hour waits for rides.
If you can plan your trip the first two immediate weeks of January, ie before the last two weeks, or go in the first couple of weeks of November but not in the last two weeks around the 25th as its Thanksgiving. In the November off-ish season everywhere is cheap especially the Harbor Blvd strip. Disneyland Hotels are visciously overprized for Aussies as it ends up being about 500 bucks a night. When you can get a place literally across Harbor for around 100 a night. Hope this helps |

that crazy music convention is only 4 days long, it's called NAMM
(and quite fun if you can get in, it's for industry insiders and has lots of celebs.) the on site hotels offer package deals with tickets. checking the anaheim convention center site can be helpful, or contact disney travel...they can book you in any area hotel, not just the 3 on the resort. they should know what events are going on as well. |

Hello,
This was our experience. We visited Disneyland in Summer 2005. The first night (prior to going to the park) we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Katella. I believe the price was around $80.00 (US). We enjoyed our stay here very much - the people who run it were extremely courteous and helpful. The parking is underground the hotel. There is a tram that stops nearby (a block or so away) to take you right up to the Disneyland entrance. Every service (including free Internet, etc) you could need. Everything was convenient and easy. The second night we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel - the original, not the newer one. We had dreamed of staying at the Disneyland Hotel since we were kids and the Monorail would ride back and forth between the park and the Hotel (it doesn't do that any more!) We were VERY disappointed. The rooms were small and the service was awful. It was hard to get anyone's attention anywhere, even at the front desk. It was hard to find a place to park and when we did we had to walk a LONG ways to get to our room and a LONG ways (through downtown Disney) to get to the Disneyland entrance. Nothing is explained to you, nobody there to answer questions and I felt as if I were an intruder. The fact that all of this cost over $200 for the 3 of us, was sickening. As I said, this was our experience. Debbie V. |

Although staying at a Disney Hotel is very nice(I have had a great experience both times) it is very expensive. Yes, the Disney hotel rooms are nicely themed, and are in a wonderful location compared to the parks, but they are expensive!!! I love staying at the PPH and the GCH, but it is really hard to justify spending that much money on a hotel room that you are hardly in anyways. Don't get me wrong, I would not take my stays for anything, but I could just see spending that extra money on so much other stuff, like a nice collectible or something. I have never had a bad experience staying at surrounding hotel, especially the ones directly across from the main entrance on harbor. They are just a close of a walk as the Disney properties, for a fraction of the price. The rooms are never going to have the same Disney feel, but for me who just uses the room to shower and sleep, that does not really matter. If I were made of money however, I would always stay at a DLR hotel, just because it is special. I hope this helped

The Anabella, which is a very short walk from behind DCA, is a very nice hotel for a really good price. Nice as in granite countertops in every room. During a convention, my friend even slept in the bathtub (we had like, 10 people in one room....) and was comfortable ^_^
On the other hand, I do not recomend the Coast Hotel. The rooms really reflect how old the hotel is. But, if you're on a higher level, you get a nice view of the Tower of Terror. That's just from my experiences of the hotels ^_^ |

I too enjoyed the Anabella, until we got home and they had sent a letter stating we had broken a window and charged us $40 for it!
I mean I guess it could have been worse and they could have charged more then $40, but we DID NOT break the window! It was very frustrating! Because of that, I do not think I would stay there again.

^ wow, thats crazy. I would have been furious!!
back on Topic. The Fairfield INN by Marriott is a great place to stay, they have clean rooms and it's within walkin distance. Rooms go for $80. The Grand Californian bosts the most expensive rooms that can run upwards of $850 a NIGHT (maybe even more, but that's what we paid last time we stayed there) The GC is THE place to stay, but if you're on a budget it isn't the place for ya. The least you will spend on a room at the GC is $265/night. I dont know the price on Paradise Pier or Dinseyland Hotels, but i'm sure they are no less than $200. So the answer is: It's a LOT cheaper staying in a surrounding hotel.

^I agree! Had a wonderful time at the GCH! I know we payed an arm and a leg for our room, and we only had the standard view. It was worth it though, but for us it was a one time splurge.
Have stayed at the Ramada Maingate, Castle inn and suites and Travelodge International and would stay at all 3 again. Great prices and no problems at any of them. I believe the PPH is the cheapest of the 3 Disney properties, at least it was the last time I checked 900th post!

We stayed at the Tropicana right across the street this past August and LOVED it! Sure, the rooms were on the small side, but we only slept and showered there!!! All our time was in the parks or the pool! The poeple running it were very nice and our whole trip (room for 7 nights, 5 days at DL and DCA, 1 day at US and 4 days of Disney dining for 5 people) was under $3k...We didn't think it was too bad!!! =O)

We have stayed at the Grand Californian, DL hotel, and the Anabella in the past, and found all of these to be great!! This year, booked a few of the days via Priceline and got rooms for $50 night with a 3 star rating!! I will post of review of the hotel after our trip in june!
