Default Disneyland Hotel...

Is it all it's cracked up to be?
I am on my way right now to book my trip, I am praying that we can get airfare and hotel reservations on such short notice. We usually stay at the Howard Johnsons but are planning on trying to get into the DH.
I have read mixed reviews on it. I think the pool area looks amazing and I have 2 children ages 6 and 9.
What do you think?

I've been numerous times and it's great. It's close by and just neat to stay at. Service was always nice and it's very kid friendly and you feel safe. I say why not =) Give it a try I'm sure the kids will love it!

I love it. It's convenient, the service is great, and it's full of Disney charm everywhere. There are two themed pools so your children will love it. It is a bit expensive though, but in my opinion it's worth it if you can afford it. It's not the best value, of course, but if you're staying at DLR for a while, it's a good place to stay. Just try to get a room in the Sierra or Marina Towers. Nothing against the Bonita, but it's the furthest one from the Monorail and if you're walking that far anyway, you may as well stay at the Paradise Pier, which costs much less.

So we tried to book, but not enough advance so we're going to have to stay some place else. We don't really want to stay at the HoJo again, anyone have any absolutely fabulous hotel rec's.

Is the Paradise Pier available? I stayed there last summer and they are very friendly. If you book a standard room, ask upon check-in if you can be upgraded to a room with a view of DCA. You may get it for free, and I vouch for this because it's happened to me and others. (Btw, I only recommend the resort hotels if the monorail is going to be open during your visit.)

Other than that, the Candy Cane Inn and Anabella are great hotels. They are a little further so you may need to catch a shuttle. The Marriott on Harbor is very nice too. Here's a link you might find helpful also:

I just made reservations at the Grand Californinan - more expensive but VERY nice...and a guests-only entrance to DCA. Have you tried Paridise Pier? I haven't stayed there, but I've heard it's nice, and also kid-friendly.

I stayed at the DLH a couple times, its great, and cuba gooding jr. stayed on my floor last time. but Candy cane inn and best western Park place inn are great motels. BWPPI is probably the closest hotel to the parks besides the DL hotels. both have continental breaky, but the pools in both are just regular, nothing special. BWPPI has really big rooms, but CCI is more neatly decorated. both are great, and I highly suggest either one.

Unfortunately Disneyland Hotel is completely booked.
We're going to stay at the Residence Inn & Suites. They have kids suites, and it looks pretty nice. Hope we like it. 4 more days! YAHHHH

We are staying there in two weeks. I let my family choose between the Grand Californian or the DLH. Although they loved the looks of the GC they prefer the "Disneyland" feel of the DLH. I love all the hotels there!

Just walking around the hotel is nice. There are waterfalls you can walk behind, coi ponds with some really big coi. I love the DL Hotel.

Default Disneyland Hotel

Yes, the Disneyland Hotel is more expensive than most local area hotels but to me, it's worth it. The pictures in the lobbies, the atmosphere, its proximity to Downtown Disney, its pools, its history, its staff, its closeness (used to be closer) to the Monorail, its restaurants and just the overall experience of staying at the official Hotel of the Magic Kingdom make it worthwhile. My kids love the Neverland Pool (ages 6, 8 and almost 3). You also have your own line while waiting for the Monorail in Tomorrowland. If you get tired from all the walking in Disneyland, hop on the Monorail and go relax by the pool. At least once in your life, stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

I have heard a nasty rumor from within Disney that the water falls may soon be history. That would be a shame. I guess folks have complained about the noise and they are a bear to maintain. I have pictures of when they were constructing those taken by Bonita Granville herself. She absolutely loved those falls and gave lots of input on their design.
