Question Bed Bugs

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced bed bugs at any of the resort hotels or any of the surrounding hotels?

I never have, but I've been hearing a lot of buzz about bed bugs on the news and npr and stuff...so, I was just wondering.
Thanks:)

The last time I check in at the Ramada Maingate in May, the first thing I did was rip the sheets off and check! Luckily, the pesky critters weren't there, but for personal safety everybody should check no matter what hotel they check into.

Post What to look for. Information Resources.

I have never seen Bed Bugs, so I looked them up and found a couple of pages to know what to look for.

Often times, you don't see the bugs themselves. In which case, you have to look for signs that they leave behind. Here's a page to know what you should be looking for: http://www.bedbugsguide.com/identifying-bed-bugs.htm

And I didn't know if they were easy to spot or not... like if they were near-microscopic... They're not. Here's a pretty good picture of some of them: http://ccn1.net/POTD6/bed-bugs-infecting-mattress.jpg

And here's a great site (How Stuff Works) that goes into some detail about the little creatures: http://animals.howstuffworks.com/insects/bed-bug.htm

And their bites do NOT look like fun... not at all: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1033/...6308d0af18.jpg

If you want to read a LOT about them, there's always the trusty ol' Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_bug

Seems they're REALLY tough to get rid of once they're in the house, if you bring them home with you. After reading about them I liken them to fleas, only much much more disturbing for some reason...

I am amazed that some of the fleabag hotels I have stayed at in Anaheim weren't infested. Perhaps they were and I got VERY lucky.

Anyway, I hope the information is helpful. It's a VERY good thing to take into consideration, especially in Anaheim hotels. Everyone from all around the world goes there, so what better place for the critters to get established?

If there were bed bugs in my wonderful room and bed at the Disneyland Hotel, they were squished when I jumped on the bed in excitement of being in such a wonderful place lol. But no, I never have in any of the resort hotels or Good Neighbor hotels.

Great Find! Those photos show exactly where to look, too: In the fold next to the piping around the edges of the matress. You might not see the bugs but you'll see the, ahem, "signs".

Also, don't set your luggage down on the bed or carpeted floor until you've inspected the bed. You don't want any of them hitching a ride home with you in your suitcase! Set your luggage on a tabletop or luggage rack until you've checked the bed.

I always inspect the bed first thing. There's been a bed-bug epidemic lately. Even some of the "good hotels" have gotten infested, so it doesn't necessarily mean that the place is dirty or run down. It's not the hotels' fault: Travelers unknowingly bring them in their luggage.

Bed bugs; just the term sounds icky.

I can hear Merlin saying, "It's Disneyland, it's clean!"

I believe I was reading a post by Jen-Ness, who was saying that Park Vue had bed bugs. Don't quote me, but I believe that is where there was a case found.

Where did bed bugs live before beds were invented?

In my trips to the Anahiem Resort area, I have never checked for the little critters. I guess I'm in denial.

I have stayed in 8 or 9 different hotels there and never had a problem. I am wondering how common they are. Has anyone here ever found them in their hotel room?

I wouldn't necessarily believe reviews of hotels that state there are bed bugs there. People sometimes post those because they didn't like something about the hotel and they really, really want to discourage people from going. I wrote to someone not too long ago about a hotel review (San Diego hotel), someone who stated he found what "checked out" to be a bed bug in the hotel, and I asked for a further explanation. Turns out it was a bug on the curtain to a sliding glass door (that exited to a balcony or garden) and there was not really any "checking it out". If you are concerned about OC hotels or Anaheim hotels, call the County of Orange County to find out about reported and investigated cases. Most likely the department to speak to would be public health, but it may be environmental health/vector control.

How smart!

I never would have thought about my luggage being a free ride home for those nasty critters!

It works vice-versa, actually. Travelers can carry bed bugs into the hotel room with their luggage. Most people don't have bed bugs in their luggage, but some pick them up during extensive travels or travels out of the county. When luggage is placed on the bed it compromises both luggage and bed.
