My favorite Hotel isn't listed -- Disney's Grand Californian. I stay there every time I visit. Expensive, but totally worth it! Rooms are beautiful, great restaurants, 2 themed swimming pools, yummy room-service menu, direct entrance to DCA and Downtown Disney...who could ask for anything more?

My mom and I stayed at a Motel 6 on Chapman Ave in Orange,CA in July. When we go to Disneyland, we really just want a room to sleep in because we stay open to close in the park. This hotel was the most inexpensive I could find (around $70 per night). The rooms were very simple, and they were clean. There is a Denny's in the parking lot where we had a dinner and a breakfast - yum. If you want a place to stay with tons of amenities and you are going to spend a lot of time in the room, this probably isn't the place for you. However if you want a place only 10 minutes or so from the parks to go and sleep until you wake up at the crack of dawn and do it again, this is a good choice. :)

We stayed at the Econolodge on Katella in February, and it was awful. The beds were like hard wood, the room smelled bad, cobwebs all over the walls, and the shower curtain kept falling down! I went with friends who wanted a "cheap" room, and that is what we got!

For Tinker Chellebelle
I stayed at the Stovall's Best Westerm all the time when I was little, this is in the 70's and it was nice, and space age and called the Inn of Tomorrow. But when I stayed there a few years ago it was awful! A hole in the shower wall with no hot water ( in Jan.) and a wet spot on the floor of the bedroom that never dried. They never changed the sheets either and we were there for 5 days. So I dod not have a good experience at all, when we talked to the manager all he said was that, that was the only room he could give us and we would just have to like it. Can you believe it! Of course this was a few years ago and it could be different but still for a few dollars more you can stay at the Candy Cane Inn and have a much nicer experience and its closer to Disneyland. We always stay at the Candy Cane now except when we can afford to stay onsite. Its a family owned hotel , they are extreamly nice as well as really clean and tidy. breakfast is included as well. Love it there.

Hey Tink, I stayed at the Stovall's best western last year, you get what you pay for. It was alright, nothing fancy, just a place to rest your head, it was a bit noisy though. My problem was it's location. It's basically the far south corner of DCA. Taking the trolley took about 45 minutes to get to the main gates and the number of buses driving that route seemed less than others. For about the same price and quality I will go with Park Place Inn Best Western, It's literally across the street from the front gates. about the same quality, no pool that I know of though, but still if you want a quick nap or snack break, it's about as close as the D-land hotel. I love it there if you want bargin accomidations.

Stayed at the Tropicana Inn across the street from the main entrance and totally within walking distance. Its the second hotel from the stop light on harbor and you can hear the monorail from your hotel room. Basic room wiith breakfast and a pool, but who's swimming? Parking at the hotel and walking back and forth was definately worth it and it was only around $100. I'll be there for the second time on the weekend of the 9th. Look for it in the AAA travel guide # 15 on page 22, or mapquest 1540 S. Harbor Blvd. Anaheim.

Working with a very limited budget I hunted down the most economical reservation I could make. Since I was just looking for a place to bathe and sleep, I wasn't particularly fussy about the accomodations. I was just looking for the basics. I stayed in the EconoLodge on Katella. It was a very basic room. Furniture consisted of a bed, end tables, and a bureau. Some hotel rooms will have a small, table-and-chairs set up, but that was absent here. (not that I needed one, just a place to sleep). There was a TV, microwave, mini-fridge and a clock radio. Even though I called ahead to confirm my reservation, noone turned on the air-conditioner in my room ahead of time, and the room was very hot when I got in at midnight. A trifling point, that I wouln't necessarily give points off for, but a courtesy that would certainly have been appreciated. The A/C worked quickly and well, so no matter. The room appeared to be adequately clean, and so did the bathroom, but the towells were questionable. They had that stiff, line-dried feeling. Not seeing a clothes-line anywhere, that left only two possibilities - either they weren't in the tumble dryer long enough and were folded while still damp (which is actually pretty likely), or, after a previous guest used them somebody decided that they were clean enough, and just folded them and put them back on the shelf (this is not likely but just the idea of it is disgusting!) I hadn't checked them before getting in the shower, so what choice did I have about using them? Luckily there were a couple that felt fresh. I didn't bother to chase down the staff there after the fact. It seemed pointless since I was about to leave anyway. As for the bed, I inspected it for bedbugs, which I'm happy to report were thankfully absent. Having attempted to sleep in a seat on the Greyhound bus the previous night, just having a flat place to sleep was wonderful. But unfortunately the bed was hard. On a scale of softness where 10 is a feather-bed and 1 is a flat slab of cement, this bed rates a 2! Really, it's only advantage to sleeping on the sidewalk is that you can lock yourself in. I set the clock radio alarm and was awakened by it an hour early. The clock said 6:30am, but my wristwatch said 5:30am. Another little annoyance. Even with my low expectations, I would rate the EconoLodge on Katella as barely even adequate. Would I recommend it to anyone? Absolutely not.

Disneyland was spectacular, exceeding all my expectations, which were awfully high. And then there was the Greyhound experience
...but I don't want to go off topic and post a trip report here. Sometime soon I'll post a trip report somewhere.

We stayed at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel & Suites in June. There were 5 of us and we had two adjoining rooms. They were large and the bathrooms had huge vanities. The beds were fine, the TV's were new, and the pool was terrific.
The outside of the buildings definitely need work, and the bathroom tile is pretty old. But it was all clean, and the rates were extremely reasonable. The very short walk to the parks is what sold us on the place, and we would definitely stay there again. |

Ramada Inn Maingate (I think). I stayed there August 14th, it was an ok price (around 80 bucks), and a 2 minute walk to the park. Tower of Terror was right acros the street. Most of the food in the area was over priced, the beds were comfy. It wasn't the best hotel ever, but we were glad it was in walking distance of the park, and there weren't shady drug deals in the parking lot. Oh yeah, we were able to buy our tickets in the lobby too, so that was one less line we had to wait in that day.
