I graduated like 30 years ago so I can't say what high school is like in 2008, but my high school years were just awesome! I have so many memories of those years and a bunch of my high school friends and I still get together often and have a great time. I will tell you this much, one important part of having a successful high school experience is to get involved in something: music, sports, drama--anything you can really commit to and enjoy. It will help you make friends with like-minded people and make you feel like you are really working towards something. Don't put off doing your homework, either, it's so much easier to get it done so you can quit worrying about it. I can tell you have a wonderful sense of humor which will make people like you right away. Good luck tomorrow--I think you're going to do great =)

Just don't let the nervousness get to you.
You may have heard that Freshmen commonly get picked on by the older folks - that is probably true, but don't let that intimidate you. Best way to prevent that is not to act like you own the place and know everything, because that's what bothers most people who've been in high school longer.

Enjoy your time, and keep on top of your classes, and make new friends. Because you will without a doubt meet plenty of new faces that you never could have previously in middle school, that you'd be crazy not to take the opportunity to get to know these people.

I didn't really care too much for it to be honest. I liked the school and I am happy I went there but in general... Bleh. I had some fun and I also had some bad. I too can't say what it's like now either since I graduated nearly 15 years ago. I was fortunate to graduate the year before they brought in 9th grade to high school.

This easier said than done, since it's impossible to avoid. STAY..........AWAY..........FROM........ ..DRAMA! Like personal, friendly, emotional, anything drama. It will ruin your high school experience.... it did for me.

I just graduated high school and I loved it. It was the best time of my life! I didn't want to leave. Make sure you get involved. In anything! It really makes high school fun. I got to do so many cool things by being involved in things. Like... go to DISNEYLAND! haha

Don't worry about it! Just be open to TONS of new things! You'll be fine!

And no, the older kids will not pick on you. Heck, by the time I was a senior, I was barely on campus to even notice the younger kids, let alone take the time to be mean to them.

All that matters is your attitude. If you think its gonna suck, then it will. But if you think positive, you will have a blast!

Key to high school success: care only about academics and extracurricular. Seriously. Put the extra effort into these key areas. The social ties you form won't be difficult; if they are, rethink your mission.

Yes! This one! Drama is a word I hear all too much at my high school. Don't get involved in it; it'll fog up your mind and you won't be able to concentrate on a thing! I just try to sit back and watch as my other friends deteriorate in front of me haha.
And another thing...don't let bigger people intimidate you. I remember my first 2 years actually there was this one guy and he was the worst. He picked on me all the time. But I just try to brush it off and not worry about it.
Concentrate on your studies; work hard and make sure you take all the right classes so as to fulfill the requirements for getting out.
Good luck!

High school was without a doubt the WORST 4 years of my life. Between the seniors picking on me as a freshman, to all the stupid drama, to the cliques at lunch...Everything was as miserable as you could possibly imagine. I almost didn't survive those 4 years, but it's a good thing I did because now I can look back on it...or try to forget it altogether.

Oh Ranko, that is so sad =( If I had been at your high school, I would have been your friend and NOBODY would have been mean to you. Maybe surviving those 4 tough years is what prepared you to do such an awesome job with Disney?? We all love you!! =)

I'm gonna be a senior, and I made these sophomore year, and I've seen them all proven

The Universal Truths of High School:
1. There will always be work.
2. We will always be tired.
3. We will always hate Mondays.
4. We will always love Fridays.
5. Everyone will always wish it were Saturday.
6. No relationship will last forever.
7. There shall be tyrants in every area of school life.
8. There shall always be someone spiraling out of control.
9. Classmates and friends are thicker than thieves.
10. Your classmates will save your life.

That aside, I got through high school by doing my homework as quickly as I was able, hanging out with my crowd and those of my friends/siblings, and trying to simply observe drama without putting myself into the thick of it. You'll also want to invest in a good pair of headphones, regardless the policy concerning music at your school, because that is the only way you'll ever concentrate on your work.

Here's an approach that I think works for all students no matter how subconsciously they do this: Think of the character you embody most (for me, it's been between Belle and Strider), then you think of how they act socially (Belle doesn't attract attention, but remains polite when the lights is cast on her. Strider is the cloaked stranger observing from the corner with the 'back off' eyes, keeping a hand on the hilt of his sword). Drawing on that can allow you to keep out of trouble (or in it, depending on how you see yourself).

This is so true, and you can apply these same rules to life after high school, but I would amend #7 to read, "There shall be tyrants in every area of life--period--so don't let them bring you down."

Well I hope you had a good day today!

I'm a senior this year, and High school has been a blast!

Make sure that freshman year you find some people to hang with. Freshman year, everyone is looking for some friends, so be open to hanging out with people, because sophomore year, there are already groups, or cliques, and people aren't as desperate to hang out with a new person.

I found a few orchestra people to hang with, and our little group gets bigger every year. We have 2 lunch periods so sometimes we get split up, but there is always someone that we know at lunch so its all good.

Yes don't slack off either, always do your homework, and if you have trouble try to see if you can stay after school to get help from your teachers. I do that a lot, freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, and I'll probably do that this year too.

As for getting picked on, its not as bad as people say it is. I don't think I was picked on at all freshman year, it only has it to some people, and I don't bother freshman this year, unless their jerks. So don't be a Jerk and people will leave you alone.

So I think a good guideline is find some good friends that will go through high school with you, and some you may begin to hate, but most times not.
Freshman year has lots of work, sophomore is a bit easier, than Junior year is pretty difficult, and Senior year is easy as pie. Here is my schedule this year
0 hour (a hour) strolling strings
1st Symphony
2nd Video production
3rd Contemporary lit
4th stock market
5th lunch
6th Calculus
7th new media

So you may have five or even six core classes, but by senior year, you can take as little as three like me. Some people I know just have 2! So it really pays off.

Again don't slack on homework otherwise you will be sunk! It catches up very quick to you and you can end up with bad scores, and a large headache. When you get home you'll be tired, and you won't wanna do anything, just chill for a half hour and then do your work. Thats how I've always done it.

So make friends, don't slack, and don't get stressed and you'll do fine.
