Greetings,
I believe that the stores are owned by "Childrens Place", or somthing similar. The information that I have been given, via the local Disney Store Manager, is that changes to the stores are in the works. About two weeks ago he said that the stores were going to all get a remodel. Make them more Disneyish, in our local store's case, make it look like it did when it first opened. Along with changes to the merchandise stocked, he was told by those above him, that collectables in some form would be back. As was stated then, "It will be a good change from being a toy store that sells coffee mugs." I did hear from a Canadian Diney Store employee (on another website) that she has been part of the team that was closing Canadian stores. On that same website the information was that many stores here are being closed for the remodel. The first of the "new look" stores is to open very soon, if not already, I believe it was in Connecticut. If anyone is curious, let me know & I'll refind the information & post it. cheers, Steve |

I suppose there are a lot of pros and cons to that. The Disney Store near my house has looked the same ever since I was little. Even though some of those mechanical figures lining the top of the store seem a little "outdated", I really enjoy seeing them, as they bring back childhood memories. However, I kind of think they need to do something to the store, because in recent years, they haven't been too popular.

Greetings, again...
You are fortunate that your Disney Store had not changed. When "ours" received the much anticipated makeover several years ago............everything that reminded one of Disney, aside from the merchandise, was gone. The "Toon Town" looking facades that went around the top of the store, yes, mechanical figures too, and the front window that reminded one of the windows at Disneyland's Emporium were all gone. There was nothing left except for paint all the way up to the heating/ac ductwork. Customers ( not Disney enthusiasts ) were surprised when they were told, " No, this is the Disney Store....not "-name withheld-" Toy Store." Hopefully, that will become a thing of the past. cheers, Steve |

There is a Disney Store in the Thousand Oaks Mall here in California. It is still open, I used to work there a few years back. I have one of the props from the original store theme before we had to change it. I got a Mickey Mouse flag made out of metal witht he MM club symbol painted on it. About 4 feet tall. I miss working there...... Somewhat.

And back again.....
While Disneydirect will continue, the stores will go/have gone their own way. Our "D" Store manager wasn't sure how much product overlap there would be, but he assumes that some Disneydirect items will be part of his inventory........actually, he hopes. cheers, Steve |

Actually Children's Place owning the stores is going to turn out better than Disney owning it. Disney has been taking the stores in a wrong direction for some time now, and has pretty much been clueless how to get folks in through the doors. The internet has SO changed the dynamics of marketing "real" stores and Disney simply just has not caught on.
"The Children's Place" has. They offer very hip, and very inexpensive clothing that parents simply love. Their sales are real sales, and the stores are always thoughtfully laid out and kept very clean. The employees are also always very neat looking and helpful. Mrs. DaddyB and I will drive to the mall 15 miles away just to shop at The Children's Place. It's called being a destination store for us. Going to the other shops in the mall are secondary. This is what Children's Place is making the Disney Stores again. These are all things that the Disney store has lacked the last 5 years or more. The closings that are still going on are trying to stem the flow from over saturating the market. I'm sure you will see a much larger "superstore" for Disney in Las Vegas within a year. A Disney superstore will also be opening in Southern California. ONE superstore for all of Southern California, making it a 'destination store' for many southern californians. All the other stores (or most of them) will have a simple upgrade. I look forward to what Children's Place will be doing. I hope it's not ALL clothes, but it'll be nice to have clothes offered again, and not just costumes and toys. |

I was a part of the change when the Disney Stores got a new president and they decided to change the stores from how they had been for so long to the non selling childrens stuff now. My store in Thousand Oaks and the Topanga store in the Topanga Mall became the test stores. Kinda fun except we still had to wear the 50's pepsquad looking uniform. The one that had the blue sweater, white button down shirt and kahki pants. Good times though.
