And as long as we're talking about anime series, a really good one to see (if you haven't already) is Gurren Lagann. I would stick with the subbed episodes, myself, and you need to watch at least the first three episodes. If you don't like it after those three, you don't have to watch any more. But, to be honest, I don't see how you can not keep watching after episode 3.
I'm glad to know that the series gets better. It's really interesting to watch this show, even though I'm very familiar with the events already occurred.

What's Guren Lagann about?

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,
Sesshomaru-sama

It's a giant robot anime from Gainax, the same guys who did Evangelion. Although, it's not quite as serious as Evangelion. It's quite funny and action-packed, but it's got its share of drama with a hint of romance. I do dig it.
In terms of story, humans now live underground. The surface of the earth is ruled by beastmen. Enter Simon, a digger from a small village who comes across a mysterious artifact, and Kamina, a man who wants nothing more than to see the surface.
Don't want to spoil too much. Just check it out if you're able.
