Default VERY cool story!!!!

I consider myself to be the world's biggest fan of Walt Disney (even though I know a lot of you would say the same thing ). I have books, movies, and everything else you can think of relating to or about Walt Disney. I'm obsessed! I wish I could have met him, and I'm always looking for people who actually knew him, so that I can ask them personally what Walt was like. I've still never met someone who has personally met Walt Disney.....er.....atleast I thought I hadn't. But a couple of minutes ago my wife called me (because she was visiting her Grandfather with her Mom while I was at work). She was so excited and said, "Guess what?!" I said , "What?" She said, "My Grandpa just told me that he worked personally with Walt Disney on one of his movies!" Well, as you could imagine, my jaw dropped and I almost fell out of my chair. I was speechless! She went on to tell me that he worked with Walt during WWII, when things were a little rough for Walt. You see, my wife's grandpa worked on airplanes all of his life. His is an amazing inventor, and a genius at that. He helped Walt produce one of his WWII movies (I'm sure a lot of you have heard of them, or maybe even seen them). I asked her to ask him if he had any pictures of him and Walt.........and to my surprise, he said he had a couple, but he would have to look for them because he hasn't had them out in ages. How cool is that!!!!! I'm going to interview him and squeeze out every bit of his stories so that I can feel a little bit closer to Walt himself!! I'll update this thread as soon as I find out more.

My aunt use to work for him when the blue bayou lagoon first opened. She said he always wanted them to call him Uncle Walt and aksed them how they were doing, how their family was doing, etc.
--------------------------------------Double post added here.
Oh and I will ask my mom if she has any more stories, because she is the one who told me her sister worked for him.

Be sure to thank your wifes Grandfather for any time he has spent looking for the photos and time spent sharing stories with you. I love to discover life stories. There are so many things that I took for granted growing up, that I wish I could ask my Grandmother now. Make sure to write as much of it down as you can.

That is great!! My aunt met Walt on opening day but she was young and didn't have much info.

Good luck with your interview.

I was at the park on Wednesday and we were heading over to Tom Sawyer's Island. There was an older lady running the raft. When I got on I noticed her name tag said "Class of 1968". I started to talking to her and she said she met Walt at the park when she was 8 years old. She said the instant he put his hand on her shoulder she knew he was a very special person. She addressed him as Mr. Disney but he told her to call him Walt. He said when she turned 17 that she should come work for his team and that's just what she did. She started working at the park at age 17 and still works there today. I think she's around 60 years old. On her 35th anniversary she got to have dinner with Roy Disney. She absolutly loves her job and she's a joy to talk to. Her name is Diane. Look for her on the raft going to Tom's island and say hi to her!

So much time can be spent at work how wonderful that she loves her work. I always enjoy meeting people that have found something they love to do. It sounds like both Walt Disney and Diane shared something in common.
