Soda or pop?

How do you say it? I have recently been contradicted when I said pop instead of soda. I was just wondering how other people here say it.

I think it's a culture thing that kinda differs from where you live.
I think the majority of people who live in California call it soda.

For me, I can't help but put a wide face for whenever I hear it referred as 'pop.'
That name just sounds awkward to me when someone says it and refers to soda.
And I rarely ever hear called that. I don't know how often it is used elsewhere, though.

I say soda usually, but more often I just say the brand. ex., Let me have a Coke, or a Sprite, or Root Beer. I never called it pop though. LOL Not saying it is wrong, I think it's funny how different regions call it something different.

I had a long conversation about this with a guy at my chruch. He used to live on the East Coast, and they all called it pop. Here in california, someone said "Can I have a soda?" And he went "soda? why do you guys call it soda!? it's pop!" so we had a long talk about that...

I say soda...

I think it is entirely dependent upon where you live. Some people use Coke for all soft drinks (see, I didn't use pop or soda. I am an enigma! Ha ha ha...).

Personally, I use soda most often. However, pop and soda-pop both work too.

Me? I just say, "Excuse me, could I please have a Diet Coke?" "Could I please have a Root Beer?" I don't say "Soda"

Like, if I ws talking to my friends I would be like, "I had this new drink called Yum Yum!" I wouldn't say, "I tried this new soda the other day..."

I probobly sound stupid and confused now so I'll just shut up.

I usually say the brand name or flavor, like 'Coke' or 'Ginger Ale', but if I don't know I'll ask "What soft drinks do you have?" Maybe that's just a hold over from my old food service days, where everything is a beverage, a well drink, or a soft drink.
